Whats for Dinner?
lets call it a Wednesday, mid-afternoon. Lunch is a distant memory and youre starting to feel a bit peckish. Just then, your phone buzzes. Its your partner, parent, roommate or child, asking, Whats for dinner? Its a water- shed moment: You either send back a quick reply, high-five yourself and move on with your afternoon, or you tumble onto the floor, head in hands, wailing, Why do we have to eat every single day?!
Ive been thereboth the high-five and the meltdownand frankly Im tired of the latter; I want the high-five a lot more often. I love eating dinner with my family, and I want the whole process to be joyful instead of stressful. Thats why I wrote this book. My first book, Uncomplicated , was all about sharing the recipes that prove cooking doesnt have to be difficult to be delicious. I wanted this book to be an even more practical guide to getting dinner on the table.
The rewards of having a home-cooked dinner are tremendous. Its the single best way to make
a dramatic change in your life. What other little lifestyle change improves physical and mental health, plus the health of your finances, your family and our planet all at the same time? Thats a heck of an impact from a plate of pasta (or a bowl of chili or an amazing burger or...).
But best of all, for me, having a daily dinner ritual brings more happiness into my life. When I eat with the people I love (whether I do the cooking or not!), I feel better, no matter what the world threw at me that dayand they feel better too!
Of course the trouble is pulling it all off. As much as wed love to get a from-scratch meal on the table most nights of the week, its a tall order. Were short on time, long on hunger and out of ideas.
The most common complaint I hear from my readers, students, friends and neighbours is that they dont have time. Were busy, flying from one commitment to the next, trying to grab enough fuel to keep hunger at bay. With that in mind, I decided to structure this books chapters
to tackle that very crisis: Got minutes before shuffling a kiddo to karate class? How about a Sunday with no commitments, but a jam-packed week looms large? Or maybe you just walked in the door and everyone needs to eat, like now.
Relax. Ive got you covered. Here youll find tasty solutions for every night of the week, whether youve got almost no time, a whole day to shop and cook or anything in between. Youll also find extensive suggestions and ideas for planning meals (to help alleviate the aforemen- tioned wailing).
