INTRODUCTION
FROM ROCK-N-ROLL BABE TO PBS CHEF
I first saw my husband, Andy, while wailing hard-core, blues rock-riffs on the stage of the Bitter End Nightclub in New York City. My cult band Q was all the rage in certain circles, and we loved playing our intense, politically inspired music surrounded by the funky red brick stage backdrop and cool vibe of this notable venue.
One more detailI saw my husband, but I didnt know it at the time. Ours is a beautifully romantic story, as many New York City love stories go. You see, at the time, my husband-to-be was playing guitar in another rock band. On that particular evening, his bass player suggested that they go and check out this awesome chick singer with fiery red and blonde hair who regularly blew the roof off of clubs with her powerhouse vocals. So, as I sang my heart out in front of the packed crowd, my husband said to himself that hed like to ask me out. How that was going to happen remained to be seen, as we did not even meet each other that night.
Fast-forward several days. I arrived at Andys recording studio where I was going to be recording my first albuma jazz recordand who opened the door but my to-be husband! At first he didnt realize I was the same person he had recently seen rockin the house a few days before. You see, I was dressed somewhat conservatively in a pinstriped, button down shirt and jeans, with my below waist length mane tied back in a neat bun. We said our hellos, set up the session, and then I started to sing.
I started purring out velvety vocals, and all of a sudden I heard an enthusiastic voice speak over the studio talk back. Wait a minute werent you the girl singing a few nights ago at the Bitter End? You were AWESOME!
