Acknowledgements
We are grateful to the British Sociological Association for their assistance in organising the original day seminar which led to this volume and to Clare Whitfield for her smooth administration during the event. We would like to thank the members of the BSA Family Study Group who contributed to what was an energising and thought-provoking day and for those whose enthusiasm has sustained the project during its gestation. Our thanks also go to David Morgan, Lynn Jamieson and Graham Allan, the editors of the Studies in Family and Intimate Life series and Philippa Grand and Olivia Middleton at Palgrave Macmillan for their support and helpfulness.
Kathy Almacks chapter first appeared in a slightly different form as Almack, K. (2008) Display Work: Lesbian Parent Couples and their Families of Origin Negotiating New Kin Relationships, Sociology, 42, 1183-99, Sage.
