Chapter 1: All About Cheese Balls
The Cheese Balls
Do you know of any cheese dishes that are easier to make, less time-consuming, and even more cheesy than cheese balls? You may be able to provide some suggestions. They were pretty popular from the 1950s to the 1970s, but their popularity started to decline in the 1980s and 1990s when they were seen as a little too heavy on the cheese in their preparation. In the twenty-first century, however, cheese balls have regained appeal, thanks to the efforts of creative home cooks who have created wonderful and delicious variants on this delicacy that couldn't be easier.
Cheese balls, a Wisconsin tradition, will be served at every holiday gathering, movie night, and big game party that our family will attend this year. We've also learned from our previous blunders that if you're going to prepare anything using Wisconsin cheese, you should make two batches since it will go before you know it.
Wisconsin: where great cheese balls are born.
Even though cheese balls did not originate in our area, we here in Wisconsin believe cheese balls to be a particularly Wisconsin custom. Because we've consumed so many of them over the years, they may have become our go-to meal when we're looking for a unique appetizer that will wow our visitors. However, the most likely reason Wisconsin is home to the best cheese balls is that we are cheese connoisseurs obsessed with everything linked to the cheese.
As a matter of fact, we've been making cheese for 175 years long before we were formally acknowledged as a state and we now manufacture more flavors, styles, and varieties of cheese than any other nation on the earth. In addition, we have earned more cheese awards than any other state or country globally, including our own. From making some of the best artisan cheese you've ever had the pleasure of tasting to creating a retro spherical cheese delight, we here in Wisconsin are continuously keeping our eye on the (cheese) ball, no matter what we're doing.
