R eleased in September 2019, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are Apples latest, top-of-the-line smartphones. These mobile devices are chock full of awesome and powerful features that make it easy to communicate in a variety of ways. These smartphones also include the tools needed to enhance your organization and productivity.
Aside from making and receiving calls, as well as sending and receiving text messages and emails, for example, the most popular uses of the Apple iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are to take, edit, organize, print, and share digital photos.
As a digital camera, the iPhone 11 Pro smartphones offer one, 12MP (megapixel), front-facing TrueDepth camera, as well as three rear-facing, 12-megapixel cameras - one equipped with an ultra wide-angle lens, the second equipped with a wide-angle lens, and the third with a telephoto lens (shown in Figure 1.1).
Figure 1.1 - Apples website (www.Apple.com) showcasing the iPhone 11 Pros rear-facing cameras.
Between using the optical and digital zoom capabilities built into the iPhones cameras and the Camera app, its possible to achieve up to 10x zoom as youre framing your shots.
Optical zoom refers to the zoom capabilities of the iPhones actual camera lenses, while digital zoom is what the Camera apps programming is capable of achieving to augment whats possible using the physical lenses that are built into your iPhone.
When it comes to taking photos of people, for example, the front- and rear-facing cameras can both utilize iOS 13s Portrait shooting mode, as well as the Camera apps Portrait Lighting feature (which now offers six different effects, as youll learn about shortly).
The iOS 13 edition of the Camera app, when used with an iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max, also includes an all-new Night Mode, what Apple refers to as next generation Smart HDR, advanced red-eye correction, improved Live Photo capabilities, photo geotagging, auto image stabilization, a redesigned Burst shooting mode, a brighter True Tone flash with Slow Sync, and a variety of other features designed to make it easier to achieve professional-quality results every time you snap photos.
Whenever these features are used in conjunction with each other, its possible to take detailed and attention-grabbing selfies (photos of yourself), as well as regular photos, wide-angle photos, and ultra-wide angle photos, and at the same time, apply virtual lighting and/or filter effects to the images as you are shooting. How to utilize Portrait Lighting, and all of the new picture taking features added to iOS 13 will be covered shortly.
The resolution of all digital cameras is measured in megapixels. One megapixel is equal to one million individual pixels (or colored dots) that comprise an image. Thus, the higher the cameras resolution, the better quality each image will be.
A better quality image means it will showcase more detail, better depth perspective, and more vibrant colors. The four cameras that are now built into the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max utilize approximately 12 million individual pixels within each picture thats taken. Combined with the other picture taking technologies built into these latest smartphones and the iOS 13 edition of the Camera app, at your disposal is an extremely powerful, relatively easy-to-use tool for taking photos in almost any shooting situation.
When taking pictures in low light situations, for example, the iPhone 11 Pro smartphones are also equipped with an improved True Tone flash, and an intelligent Smart HDR (High Dynamic Range) shooting mode option. However, instead of relying on the flash, which can sometimes eliminate the ambient lighting where youre taking photos, youll discover that the new Night Mode allows you to take highly-detailed photos in low light situations, yet at the same time, capture the ambient light in an authentic way.
Apples latest smartphones also include what the company refers to as improved tone mapping, noise reduction, and auto image stabilization, making it the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max the most advanced iPhones ever from a digital photography standpoint.
Yes, this is a statement that Apple makes year-after-year as new iPhone models are released, but with the advancements in technology and improvements made to the iOS 13 operating system, along with additions to the Camera and Photos apps, this statement continues to be true.
Youll discover that Apples latest iPhone models include a stunning 5.8-inch (iPhone 11 Pro) or 6.5-inch (iPhone 11 Pro Max) Super Retina XDR, OLED Multi-Touch display. This serves as the Camera apps viewfinder, and then allows you to view your images in vivid detail using the Photos app, which also comes preinstalled with iOS 13.
In non-technical terms, the iPhones screen offers superior resolution, more vivid colors, and greater detail than previous iPhone models. This makes a difference when viewing your photos on the smartphones screen.
Plus, based on which iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max system configuration youve opted to purchase, you have 64GB, 256GB, or 512GB of internal storage space that can be used to store your digital photo library. The 256GB or 512GB options, for example, offer enough internal storage to hold hundreds of thousands of digital images, plus all of your other smartphone data.
Thanks to new functionality added to iOS 13, its now possible to insert a flash drive into the Lightning port located at the bottom of your smartphone, and then transfer or store your digital image collection using this external storage option.
