This book presents 23 origami "monsters" and 4 bodies that can be used with any of the monsters. The monsters in the book, all original designs, were displayed at the 1985 World Origami Exhibition sponsored by the Nippon Origami Association. Now, with the step-by-step, easy-to-follow, numbered diagrams in this book, you can make these fascinating three-dimensional monsters yourself. The following suggestions will help you get started:

    • Read the Folding Hints on page and familiarize yourself with the Important Folding Terms and Directions used in this book.
    • Start by using a square piece of paper 15 cm (about 5.5 inches) on each side. After practicing, you can use a larger piece for folding bigger monsters. Standard origami paper is colored on one side.

Most of the monsters are made from paper colored on both sides. If this is not available, paste two colored sheets back to back before you start. Suggested paper colors are given with each title.

    • For group or classroom projects, look at the colored creations on the inside cover pages for suggestions.
