A CKNOWLEDGMENTS

I would be truly ungrateful if I did not acknowledge appreciation to my family and good friends for their support and assistance. I extend my appreciation, especially, to my husband Frank for all his loving support, my friend Katherina Christiansen for her listening ear and suggestions, to my sister Lori Rager for her efforts, my brother Shelby Sanders, to Eli Escamilla and his wife Michelle for their wonderful advice and help, and to Robert Evelyn for his professional help. Also, most sincerely, my appreciation goes to the professional and exceptional staff of Krause Publications for all their efforts and contributions in publishing. And, most of all, I'd like to thank a watchful, gracious, and loving Father in Heaven who blesses me and my family in every way. Without all of this support and guidance, I would not have been able to create and complete Creative Containers: The Resourceful Crafter's Guide.

Dear Fellow Creative Craft Artist COME JOIN THE FUN Whether youre creating - photo 4

Dear Fellow Creative Craft Artist,

COME JOIN THE FUN!

Whether you're creating the projects for yourself, for family crafting fun, for school instruction, as decorations, gift containers, or even for resale at a craft boutique or bazaar these projects are fast, easy, and fun to put together. And, hopefully, they're as affordable as crafting gets!

My main objective in designing and offering the projects in this book was to re-emphasize recycling, economy, and creativity, while offering a variety of holiday themes and home decor projects. I hope this book helps you save money by recycling and utilizing the craft materials you already have. I encourage you to use your creativity and imagination and to incorporate the items into your own original creations.

Recycling, covering a can, and using discarded items in crafting are not new concepts by any means. But, I hope to renew your interest and imagination in this area.

I, myself, am an impatient crafter. I want to make and finish my projects fast. As a mother of three small children, actively involved in my community and continuing my education, I have a small window of time to sit down and enjoy making crafts for myself or even with my children.

I thought about other crafters who might be like myself seeking fast, fun, and creative craft projects that don't cost a fistful of money to obtain all the needed materials and supplies. I've come up with some of my own designs that I would like to share with you, as well as some suggestions to encourage you to stretch and push your imagination into creating your own projects.

My family has enjoyed creating these recycled decorative containers and filling them full of homemade cookies, popcorn, and other treats to give to neighbors, grandparents, friends, and even out into our community as gifts for others who might not otherwise be on the receiving end during holiday seasons.

Gather your crafting tools and come jump right on in for an affordable, creative, and fun time.

Your friend,

G ETTING S TARTED Get Creative You can incorporate just about any crafting - photo 5

G ETTING S TARTED

Get Creative! You can incorporate just about any crafting technique or medium into your recycled cans, containers, and boxes. Some suggestions are rubber stamping, embossing, stickers, paper-punch art, die cuts, silhouette paper cuts, laser-cut motifs, stenciling, chalks, decorative painting, decoupage, foam craft shapes, embossed vellum, 3-D paper sculpture, or use your computer to print out a design. If you can create it on paper or fabric, you can put it on your container. The possibilities are truly endless.

Most of the projects shown are covered with leftover gift wrap, colored butcher paper, poster board, colored card stock, construction paper, or pieces of specialty preprinted scrapbook paper. I use my scrapbooking tools and supplies a lot! With the wide variety of die cuts, stickers, and specialty papers available, you can modify or decorate to match any theme.

Explore and Experiment with project materials and instructions. The materials and instructions are given only as a guide. It is my hope and objective that you will get excited and explore your imagination and creativity. Act upon those sudden thoughts of Wouldn't this look cool? or What if I used this, instead?
