As I continue my journey in life, I am confident that there is still a lot of life to live. So much left to see and experience! My ability to live longer is greater than I ever imagined possible. Ive led a fantastic life and plan on doubling down in my next thirty summers on this planet!
Longevity is truly a passion of mine and one of the core pillars of my lifes work. As a doctor, better health through medical advancements is hardcoded into our DNA. As a husband and father of two, life is about maximizing the quality of time spent with those most important to me. Through knowledge and action, the defenders of longevity, I have been able to maximize my future experiences while minimizing the struggles we all face as we age. In the grandest way, life is not as much about where you are going, but more about the journey; it can be long and exciting or cut short due to pain. The choice is ours.
Having finished medical school over 30 years ago, I have come to appreciate the day-to-day experiences which define our purpose which changes as we age. Education isnt over when you get your diploma. Ive never stopped learning or evolving my knowledge and practices. Even preparing for my daily appearances on The Doctors is like preparing for exams in medical school. Always learning. This constant desire for self improvement is one that lasts for a lifetime as a physician.
Sharing my knowledge to impact the lives of others is something Ive been blessed to do in my medical practice, my work on television, and in my charitable work. My view of what it means to be a doctor has changed over the years. I once believed my job was to fix and heal people physically. Now, I see my role to teach others how to take charge of their health to take charge both physically and emotionally a balance that allows the inside to support the outside. Healthcare should not be synonymous with triage but with vibrancy.
Being on the Emmy-winning television show The Doctors over the past decade has opened many doors for me personally and professionally. One of the biggest is my opportunity to travel the world as a volunteer with charitable organizations; sharing my knowledge and lending my skills. I went to India with Smile Train in 2010 performing cleft lip and palate procedures for a population that is in dire need of these services. Ive traveled the world in this capacity ever since. This is where my professional expertise and my passionate purpose come together perfectly. Strengthening my soul by helping others.
Meeting Dwayne J. Clark was another door opened. Not a doctor himself, instead he is a longevity explorer, we are teachers with a shared mission. Let me rewind the clock a bit on how our stories intertwine.
About the same time, I began in medicine, Dwayne started his work in the assisted living industry. While caring for patients in surgery, hospital beds, in private practice, on television and in my missionary work, Dwayne was taking care of his senior residents in different ways. As the Founder of Aegis Living, Dwayne has set a culture of education with his staff making them more committed to helping their residents. His one-of-a-kind facilities resemble luxury anti-aging resorts with a focus on anti-aging practices and social interaction; both proven to extend life.
Like me, Dwayne travels extensively in search of knowledge that can help us live better - body, mind, spirit. Funny, that we get connected at this stage in our lives where we value our similar purpose above all.
Dwayne and I share a deeply personal connection to our mothers. Dwayne and I are unknowingly brothers of the same fraternity - the one for sons who have had to watch their mother pass too early. My mother, stricken with Dementia, while Dwaynes mother was overcome by Alzheimers, we watched, helpless. When you witness a parent youve loved deeply and respected your entire life become a shadow of their once vibrant self; it changes you. Your direction, focus, and purpose on the planet are forever altered.
As the Founder of Aegis Living, Dwayne stands at the front line of the aging community, witnessing such terrible diseases such as Dementia and Alzheimers wreak havoc on the lives of his residents. The pain of watching some go through it is indescribable. Research in the field of preventing Dementia and Alzheimers is one that I especially champion and having Dwayne in the fight is critical.
