I have learned that anything that works for seven of seven children

WORKS!! All children are different, but all children respond to certain things. This book describes the one approach that will work for all of them, IF the parents follow the directions carefully. It will ultimately potty train the children, rather than making it the responsibility of the parents to remind and keep them clean and dry. Its a real breakthrough for those who have been having difficulty!

With seven children, I dont have time to type, and you probably dont have much time to read, so I have made this as brief as possible for both of us, but its still thorough.

would like all who read this to understand the real meaning of training. Training is an external influence that brings about an internal reaction; we are all being trained every day of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not.

As parents, we have a responsibility to train our children to do what is right. We are training them every day, but we should examine exactly what we are training them to do.

We want to train them to listen to us, but are we training them to ignore? We want them to share, but are we training them to grab and be selfish? We can teach them to be polite or rude, pleasant or crabby, to sleep or wake up during the nights, to be open and communicate with us or conceal things from us.

We train them by what we teach or allow, our example, and how we react or respond to the things they say and do.

Please take the time to consider what should be allowed and which things should be forbidden for your childs sake, as well as the rest of society who will be living with the results of your training.

eople tend to use the words potty trained quite loosely. Its treated as a term that only implies that one doesnt wear diapers anymore. I believe that we can agree that one who wets their pants, the carpet, and the lawn is not truly potty trained, even if diapers are only a memory to them.

Neither is the child potty trained if only the parent is aware of the childs toilet needs. This parent has become the childs memory for them, and the child has been trained to depend on the parent to keep his/her pants dry. This can become months of bondage to the parent, and its often more work than diapers.

There are different degrees of potty training. A child who only lets the parent know when he/she needs a potty, but needs assistance with each step of using it, is trained to a lesser degree than a child who knows and goes without the parents knowledge of it.

Each parent must decide for himself what degree of training will be most desirable, and what would best fit their daily schedule.

Dont panic at this point! Any degree of training will require only one day of teaching to accomplish. These little darlings are so much smarter than we have ever given them credit for!

Try to decide in advance which specific tasks you would like your little one to be responsible to carry out. Number one is an absolute requirement for a beginner trainee; now choose from the remaining items what else you would like to teach your toddler:

1. Announce intentions
2. Lower big boy/girl pants
3. Be seated
4. Accomplish goal
5. Use toilet or tissue paper
6. Re-dress
7. Empty potty
8. Replace potty

Yes, they are all capable of doing all those things! It depends only on your attitudes and reactions, which will be fully demonstrated in the following chapters.

f you have already begun potty training, and its not working well, I would strongly encourage you to stop completely for a couple of weeks before beginning this method. Im sure you deserve a break, and your little one would be more relaxed and eager if this sounds like a new idea.

I recommend the age of approximately 2 years to easily and successfully potty train any child. Many are able earlier, but waiting insures the desired results. After three or four years old, the child has usually been well trained to ignore bathroom needs to the extent that you will have to untrain them before you retrain them. Dont worry this can still be accomplished using the same method, but it may take a bit longer to break the habit thats been developed.

If you pay close attention, you will notice your child reacting to wetting or dirtying their diapers. They may say something, touch their diaper, stay still for the moment, change their facial expression, or even go hide. In most cases, they are only aware of what theyre doing, but not what theyre about to do. A rare child will be able to tell in advance, and another few will ignore the entire situation completely.
