Question: How much do you really know about your college campus? Sure, you can find the student center and cafeteria, and you probably have a pretty good idea of your way around most of the buildings. But, odds are, there are a lot more places to explore and history to know about your campus than you previously thought. A definite college must is to get to know your turf, inside and out.

One of the easiest ways to start is to take a campus tour. Maybe you got a basic tour your freshman year, but if there is a more in-depth tour that focuses on the history of your school, be sure and take it at least once. Youll be amazed at what you learn.

Another, more adventurous way to get to know your campus? Explore all the hidden nooks and crannies in a stealthier fashion! Every building undoubtedly has a basement, little-used rooms, and even a roof thats just begging to be explored. For safety reasons, its best to bring along a friend or two for this excursion to serve as a lookout or help you get out of a tight spot. Not a whole group, though (you dont want to bring any unwanted attention to yourselves). Befriend one of the maintenance/janitorial workers and see if they have any tidbits to any particularly cool parts of campus to explore. Or they could even leave a door unlocked sometime, cough cough.

As always, practice common sense (no getting drunk on the roof!), and above all, do not get caught! Be careful exploring the campus after hours (silent alarms and video cameras will no doubt be plentiful). If caught, plead ignorance. Pretend you got lost, apologize, and GTFO stat! Lastly, if the situation seems too risky, just dont do it. You dont want to do anything that would jeopardize your enrollment. Try explaining that to your parents!

Do you regularly impress people with the depth of your musical knowledge? Is music a constant part of your life? Do you make a beeline to the jukebox whenever you enter a bar? Then why not consider volunteering at the campus radio station?!

Think about it: a block of airtime for you to play whatever your heart desires! So how do you make your time slot stand out from the rest of the station formats and the other bland radio stations playing the same top 40 songs? Think of devoting your time to a theme, like a form of music not usually heard on mainstream radio (Broadway songs, Bollywood music, old school hip hop, to name a few). Advertise your station and get regular listeners, then consider opening a request line to keep them engaged. Oh, and a clever DJ name is a must, of course.

Another bonus: this will be another extracurricular activity that will look great on a resume.

There are many reasons why you could end up not going home for a school break. Maybe youre low on funds and would rather save your money. Or you have a ton of schoolwork you want to catch up on, or have an off-campus job that wont give you the time off. Or maybe you just want to spend some quality time in your college town without the added hassle of actually having to go to class. Whatever the reason, staying on campus during a break is something you should try at least once to make the most of your college experience. Let us count the ways:

Whether you live in the dorms or at an apartment/house with roommates, odds are you will have the place to yourself. How often does that happen? Were guessing never! Take full advantage of that freedom and binge-watch some TV, experiment with cooking in the kitchen, blast the music you like, and dance around in your underwearthe possibilities are endless.

If you have a job, see if you can take some extra shifts and make some extra beer money for the rest of the semester! If you dont have one, pick up a side gig or two for some extra cash (see ).

Use it as an opportunity to meet new friends! Look around and see who else decided to stay home for break.

Even the most popular bars, restaurants, and coffee shops will be gloriously uncrowded. Go out and get served immediately.

Fallen behind in any of your classes? Want to get a head start on a big project? Now is the perfect time for some uninterrupted, hardcore studying with no distractions.

You know what else is uncrowded during this time? The gym! Get a head start on your fitness and relish not having to wait your turn for the elliptical.

These are just some of the reasons that sticking around your school during a break can sometimes be more relaxing, fun, and productive than going home. Give it a try at least once, you might love it!

If you are just starting at your school, youll definitely want to get some swag to wear around campus and to events.

You can wear your school attire anywhere, on campus and off. If you like to attend campus events, its great to wear the school colors to show off your school pride.

Every school has a college fight song. And these songs can date back to the earliest years of the schools establishment. Yales Boola Boola fight song dates back to 1900. Come Join the Band, Stanfords fight song, was written in 1907. Big C, the fight song of UC Berkeley, was composed in 1913. These songs are ancient! So, in total hipster fashion, its time to bring these ditties back into the limelight.

Those in the most recent generations dont know their school fight songs, unless youre in the marching band and youre required to know it.

It is probably easy enough to find the lyrics with a quick Google search. Print them out and pass the lyrics out to your group of friends. There should also be a recording online somewhere so you can learn the tempo. Study the lyrics and memorize them with your friends. Then, the next time youre at a big game and the marching band plays the song, you can all sing along. You may even inspire the groups next to you to learn the songs before the next big game.

If youre watching a big away game at a bar, start the sing-along then. Come prepared with lyric sheets for other bar patrons so they can join in on your fun!
