A couple of years ago, online affiliate marketers enjoyed reasonable success rate. Many companies like to do this method because it allows them to get more exposure to their products from some unique sources, without them having to spend millions in the hopes of selling even one product. With traditional forms of advertising, the company would have to spend a lot of time picking out places to advertise their products, doing customer surveys, and spending a lot of money to make sure they were getting sales. If one of their affiliates sells a product, the company will pay them a percentage of the sales. But if the affiliate never makes a sale, then the company never has to pay anything.

This works out well for the individual too. If they have built up a good blog or a good following on a social media site, they can use this to make money even when they are asleep. They can talk about and promote the product with a unique code that goes to the product. When someone clicks on the link and then makes the purchase from there, the amount is credited to the affiliate, and they get to earn some commissions in the process.

But the question here is whether you can actually make some money with affiliate marketing. The answer is it depends. If you have the right following present and you are willing to put in some work to promote the product, this can turn into a very lucrative way to make money. But if you just plan to randomly post links with no blog and only five people on your Facebook account, then you probably wont be able to make any money in the process.

The problem that can come with affiliate marketing is that, like with some of the other home business opportunities that you may hear about, there are tons of get-rich-quick programs and gurus who suggest that you can just start with affiliate marketing today and you will see results by tomorrow.

They will show that all these impressive numbers of people were able to make each month, and they show images of being able to just check in for a couple of minutes a day and that is it.

While affiliate marketing can be a great way to make some money online, and many people do see a lot of success when they choose to go with this method, there is an element of work that needs to be done. You will actually have to be an active promoter, you will need to go through and build up a following of people who trust you, and you need to showcase products that your followers are actually going to be interested in.
