Ewell and I have been friends for a long time.
Ive seen him thrive and struggle.
But Ive never seen him give up.
You might say hes become a master of messaging through trial by fire.
During his time leading the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, he guided commercial fishermen across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast to recovery through two of our nations massive crisis events, Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill.
The fishermen were brought to their knees twice. I witnessed up-close Ewell and his team lead the way, saving such a rich culture that goes back six and seven generations.
Along the way, his ability to connect with people in every walk of life from media, his blogs, and TV to on- stage presentations has been masterful.
Ewell is a man of integrity. I know he put his all into this book for you.
Learn from him.
Be guided by him.
Be inspired by him.
But.
Most importantly follow his example.
What youre holding in your hands is a guide to connect to people.
Its a guide to get you going and keep going, especially now.
Dont just read this book.
Implement it on a daily basis.
And when you do, you will be connecting with your followers in such a deep way that you can and will change their lives forever.
Im looking forward to reading your blog!

P.S. This book goes beyond blogging. Its life changing for you and for those you reach as it helps you find your voice.
A crisis creates the opportunity to dip deep into the reservoirs of our very being, to rise to levels of confidence, strength, and resolve that otherwise we didn't think we possessed.

Preface
Your blogging journey starts here.
How in the world is it that youre here at this very moment?
Youre here because of 12 food bloggers!
Before we jump into what you need to know to start your own blog, let me share a snapshot of my blogging journey with youit started out a little rough.
In 2005, the historic and catastrophic Hurricane Katrina flipped our lives upside down in New Orleans, especially our fishing communities across coastal Louisiana. Katrina was a disastrous hurricane that caused more than 1,800 deaths and $125 billion in damage, one of the costliest hurricanes on record.
Our fishermen took the brunt of Katrina, losing everything, their homes, boats, trucks, fishing gear everything. Some lost loved ones. Entire communities were literally wiped off the face of the earth; what was left was unrecognizable as major landmarks were gone.
At the time, I was living in New Orleans and leading the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board. We were tested to the limits as we helped our fishermen recover. Through this process, we became master storytellers working with the media, and helping to rebuild our communities and restore billions of dollars in lost seafood sales.
After an absolutely exhausting and emotional five-year post-hurricane recovery run, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints took us to Superbowl XLIV on February 7, 2010. America cheered us on. And we won! It was the first Superbowl win ever for the New Orleans Saints. And the timing could not have been more perfect as the state of Louisiana needed renewed hope. As Drew held up the Superbowl trophy with confetti falling, I knew in that very moment we were back as a state. Our fishermen were back too.
Two months later, on April 20, 2010, our fishermen were blindsided by another disaster, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico that tragically took 11 lives and is now called one of the worst environmental disasters in United States history.
Three days after the explosion, the oil rig sunk below the water line. From that moment on, it became known as the BP Oil Spill Crisis to our fishermen and to the world.
For 87 straight days, oil and methane gas spewed from an uncapped wellhead on the Deepwater Horizon, polluting the Gulf of Mexico.
The effects were widespread and devastating. Consumers across the United States were scared to eat our seafood because of the negative imagery from 24/7 wall-to-wall coverage of the black oil spilling into the waters. There were signs in restaurants and at food festivals from Chicago to Washington, DC to New York City reading, We dont serve Gulf Seafood.
As a result, 98% percent of the Louisiana seafood markets disappeared globally. Our fishermen lost hope, and billions in seafood sales were lost, again, just like with Hurricane Katrina.
