The great outdoors is a term people use to talk about the wilderness. It may create a picture of open countryside. Maybe it makes you think of tall mountains or beautiful forests. Our world has many outdoor places for us to enjoy, whether its through hiking, camping, kayaking, or something else.
While nature is there for us to enjoy, it also has many challenges. Its important to have basic survival skills before going into the wilderness. If you do, youll be prepared for anything.
Survival skills include building shelter, making fire, and finding food. Knowing first aid and how to make tools are survival skills, too. However, the most important skill is knowing how to find water. People cant live without it.
If youre going into the wilderness for just a few hours, bring plenty of water. If youre going for a few days, bring tools to help you purify water from natural sources.
Lets say you bring water with you, but you accidentally spill it. Or you may run out of water more quickly than you expect. Even the most prepared wilderness adventurers may find themselves in these situations.
This is fine if youre returning home soon, but if youre deep in the wilderness for a while, or if youre lost, you need to find water. Its always your first priority if youre in a survival situation. Read on to learn the basics how to find water the wild.
We cant live without water. It keeps our body healthy and working right. Our body uses water to break down food. Water carries bad things out of the body when we go to the bathroom. Water helps us stay cool, which is why we sweat.
People can last only a few days without water. As time goes on, you become dehydrated, which means your body doesnt have enough water. Dehydration can make you feel dizzy and weak. Serious cases can make you sick, and people even die from it. If youre in the wild, youll need to locate a good water source before you become dehydrated.
Almost every environment has water. You just have to find it. Start by using your senses. You may hear the sound of rushing water. This could mean a stream or river is nearby. Follow the sound and see if it brings you to water.
Animals often know where water is, so look for them or their tracksthey may lead you to water. If youre in a desert, or a hot, dry area, look for green plants and trees. They need water to live, so theyre likelygrowing where wateris available.
