PREFACE
Shortlyafter I created my first writing help website back in 2001 Idiscovered that one of the most requested topics for which visitorsto my site were seeking information and assistance was on thesubject of how to write a recommendation letter. To tell thetruth, at the time, I wasnt sure exactly what people werereferring to when they used that recommendation letter term.Thats because my experience up until then had shown me that therewere a number of different types of so-called recommendationletters, each one used for a very different purpose. So, I wasntsure which one(s) they were looking for.
As aresult, I made it my business back then to spend the next fewmonths researching the entire subject of recommendation letters,in the broadest sense. As suspected, my research revealed thatthere were indeed a number of different purpose-specific lettersthat could be broadly grouped into the category of recommendationletters. Probably the most well known of these are letters ofrecommendation for admission to college or university programs, both at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
Nevertheless, my detailed research also revealed that, inaddition to the college admission related letters, there are anumber of other recommendation-type letters that are completelyunrelated to college and university admission. Even today, morethan half of the millions of recommendation letter visitors to myvarious writing help websites are seeking help with recommendationletters that are NOT related to college or universityadmission.
In fact,of the half dozen types of recommendation letters that Idiscovered people search for, the most sought after is informationon how to write character reference letters. My research alsorevealed that there were only one or two books available on thesubject of how to write recommendation letters, and both of thosewere totally focused on letters related to college or universityadmission. So there was definitely an information gap.
Thats what inspired me to write what has become myperennial best selling how-to book since 2002: Instant Recommendation LetterKit How To Write Winning Letters ofRecommendation . Since thatoriginal version, I have produced three Revised Editions of thatbook; in 2005, 2008 and 2012. The primary feature that makes thatbook unique is that it addresses ALL types of recommendationletters, not just those for college admission. Another uniquefeature is that it also provides users with almost 80fully-formatted real-life templates of actual letters ofrecommendation for the various situations that require suchletters. (Buyers of that book also get access to the lettertemplates in a downloadable MS-Word file that they can work with). As far as I know, Instant Recommendation Letter Kit continues to be the number one resource on planetEarth that offers tips, advice, information and fully formattedreal-life templates for the writing of ALL types of recommendationand reference letters.
Unfortunately, due to the layout and presentationlimitations of e-books such as this one, that need to be formattedspecifically for reading on hand-held e-book readers such asamazon.coms Kindle and the like, it is impossible for me toinclude fully-formatted real-life templates, such as I have withthe above-mentioned book.
However, what I have done with this e-book that you arereading right now is almost as good! I have taken all of the how-totips, tricks, info and advice from my original best-seller InstantRecommendation Letter Kit , and Ihave included all of that info here. In addition, whereverpossible, I have included in-context hyperlinks that will take youto actual real-life samples of those letters on the World Wide Web.The full URLs have been provided so that if you are reading thise-book while connected online you will be able to link directly tothe various templates. Or, if you are reading this while notconnected to the Internet, you still have the entire URL listedhere so that you can enter it into your Web browser via yourkeyboard later on, whenever you have online access. In addition, Ihave revised and updated the content throughout this e-book to makeit as current as possible.
Similar to its hard copy forerunner, Iexpect that this digital e-book, How To Write RecommendationLetters, will soon become the number one e-resource for writingALL types of recommendation letters on planet Earth. Please feelfree to e-mail me with any comments or questions at .

INTRODUCTION
eBookEdition Notes
Asmentioned in the Preface, the content of this e-book is based on mylongtime best seller, Instant Recommendation Letter Kit that was first published asboth an e-book and a paperback back in 2002; followed by revisededitions in 2005, 2008 and 2012. The core content of this e-bookthat you are now reading is based on that lastedition.
Sales ofboth the book and e-book have been excellent since their initialrelease. In fact, that title quickly became my best sellinghow-to book, and remains so until today. Again, as far as I know,it is still the ONLY book/e-book in existence that deals withwriting ALL types of recommendation letters.
