First you must use a dpn to begin toknit the stitches off the circular needles. A set of dpn consistsof five needles. You will use three only to separate the stitchesand then a fourth to begin the knitting. Unless you are usingprotectors on the ends of the dpns, you will have to forgo use ofthe marker, but it is easy enough at this point (with so fewstitches) to find the end of the round. Use as your guide theuncrossed cables found at the seam of the hat. Withtapestry needle, thread tail through remaining sts (be sure tothread backwards through the stitches, not forwards) and pulltightly to close top of hat. Secure with one stitch on right sideand one stitch on reverse side. Weave in any loose ends on thereverse side.
