Year after year, Sunday afternoons and Monday nights during the NFL season have belonged to men. While they cheer and argue play calls, the women in their lives are relegated to beer and chip detail. Its time for these women to join the action, and Holly Robinson Peete, star of 21 Jump Street, For Your Love, and Hangin with Mr. Cooper, and wife of NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, has written this hip, smart, cheerful guide to help them do so.
In Get Your Own Damn Beer, Im Watching the Game!, Peete shares her infectious enthusiasm for pro football and takes the complexity out of the game by breaking it down to its component parts. She explains the role of each position player, provides a rundown of all on-field penalties and referees hand signals, and offers an illustrated guide to some of the most common plays in the NFL. She gives her take on the most memorable plays in NFL history and dishes some inside dirt-in a breezy, girl-talkin narrative that promises to turn the novice spectator into a well-informed football fanatic.

VIVICA A. FOX, actress

This book reflects the same depth of understanding and expertise that Holly displays as an actor. She explains the nuances of the game in a manner that all can comprehend. Much like the mantra we have at FOX NFL Sunday, Holly sugarcoats the education pill.

JAMES BROWN, FOX NFL Sunday

Only Holly Robinson Peete combines the terminology, strategy, and history of the game with her pinpoint portrayal of life in the NFL, on and off the field. You cant help but understand and love pro football once you read this book.

Foreword

Back when I played football in college and the NFL, and I was trying to knock someone out on the field, I knew it was an awesome hit when the crowd went, Wo-o-o-o! I say that now myself when I spot something thats the real deal, like a great movie or a sweet set of wheels. After reading Hollys book, I knew it was a Wo-o-o-o! book.

Ive been in this game since I was 10 years old, and Ive seen all kinds of football books. But Ive never seen one that made me say Wo-o-o-o! Well, this book is about a lot of Wo-o-o-o! In this one volume is everything you need to know about the game of football, its history, the players, the coaches, the fans, and more.

I guess that doesnt mean much coming from a guy who grew up playing football and already knows everything about the game. After all, this is a book for women, not pro football players. So I asked the women in my life what they thought, and they all agreed with me. This is a Wo-o-o-o! book, they said. Its the real deal.

My mom has watched me play since I started playing football, and she learned a lot over those 15 years. In the beginning she used to say to me, Now dont you get hurt, son. (We all know I never did listen to my mom.) But by the end of my career mom was saying things like, Why didnt you blitz on that play? You should have been reading the guards hand! You could tell he was leaning backwards and that he was going to pass block. Then she would add, Why did you let Eric Dickerson run over you?

My wife, Karen, also learned about football the hard wayplay by play, year by year. And she says that if shed had this book back when we first got together, she might have been able to understand more clearly what I was doing on the field. When I told her about my day at the office, she might have had a better idea what I was talking about!

In this book, Holly gives you the gift of what she knows from living the NFL life. This kind of savvy takes years to learnjust ask my mom and my wifebut Holly makes it easy to understand. Everything from great Super Bowl moments, to the language of the game, to football butts worth watching (which I have to remind my wife to STOP watching!).

Who better than Holly to give you this gift? She really knows what goes on behind the scenes. Shes been thereliterallyin the locker room after Rodney busted his knee in 1995, and when he won a championship game in 2003. She knows the high points of the football life, and the low points. She knows what it feels like to win a big game and what it feels like to rush to the hospital after a season-ending injury.

Most of all, Holly genuinely loves football. And you will, too. I guarantee, this book will make you say, Wo-o-o-o!
