Beloved Forest Feast author Erin Gleeson is back with a love letter to travel and delicious vegetarian food from her home state of California
For years, Forest Feast fans have loved Erin Gleesons effortless California-style vegetarian cooking, made in her beautiful cabin in the woods. Now, Gleeson takes an extended road trip around California, staying in unique cabin dwellings along the way and showing readers the beauty and incredible food of the Golden State she knows so well. From the grapes of the wine country where Gleeson grew up to the avocados of San Diego, California is known for its rich agriculture. The Forest Feast Road Trip showcases 100 vegetarian recipes, all inspired by her familys journey by car through a stunningly geographically diverse setting. Each chapter focuses on a different region of California, depicted in Gleesons signature aesthetic of atmospheric photography, charming watercolor illustrations, and mouthwatering recipes drawn from the fresh, local produce found in each location. Gleeson visits the giant redwoods on the coast of Mendocino, the desert of Joshua Tree, the mountains of Lake Tahoe, the tropical beaches of Santa Barbara, the cliffs of Yosemite National Park, and everywhere in between. In each location, Gleeson and her family stay in design-forward cabins, host dinner parties, and explore local attractions, providing tips for readers who may want to take a California road trip of their own.
With its sense of wanderlust and its fresh take on the vegetarian cookbook, The Forest Feast Road Trip is an essential addition to this bestselling series.

So, returning to California ten
years ago after several years in New
York felt like coming home. I grew up in
Sonoma County, but when we left Brook-
lyn, Jon and I moved a few hours south
of there, to the Santa Cruz Mountains.
We found a little cabin in the woods
that inspired me to create vegetarian
cookbooks with our new abundance of
year-round produce using my own photog-
raphy and watercolor illustrations.
Most of our trips were back to the East
Coast to see family and friends, or
farther afield like our extended trip
to Europe that inspired my last cook-
book,
The Forest Feast Mediterranean
. Id
almost taken for granted that I lived
in this Golden State, but knew I wanted
to explore parts of it I had never been
to or hadnt experienced since I was
little. So, in search of adventure and
culinary inspiration, we piled our fam-
ily into our Nissan Pathfinder, down-
loaded a bunch of podcasts, and set off
exploring California from the Mexico
border to the massive sequoias of Hum-
boldt County. We did one long trip
-
2,500
miles without leaving the state
-
and
several small side trips to explore
different regions. Since we started off
on our first trip, two big additions
have entered our lives
:
our third child,
Winnie, and subsequently, a minivan we
call Carlene.
Cooking in our cabin surrounded by
nature has brought me so much creative
inspiration, and I wanted to take that
idea on the road. Between chapters you
will find photos of the ten different
places we stayed around California
-
cabins, cottages, beach houses, and other
unique dwellings
-
and fun things we
discovered near each. We found most of
the accommodations on vacation rental
sites; we were looking for places that
were affordably unique and not too
extravagant. We stayed in a yurt on an
urban farm in downtown Los Angeles,
a cabin near Big Sur with an outdoor
bathtub, and a lofted octagonal house
in Lake Tahoe. We saw elephant seals in
Cambria and summer snow in Lassen Vol-
canic National Park. We hit the slopes
in the Sierras and went rafting on the
Truckee River. And explored more farm-
ers markets than you can imagine
