Needles US 1 (2.25 mm) double-pointed knitting
needles (set of 4) or 32 (80 cm) circular needle
(for magic loop technique)
Other tools Waste yarn in contrasting color (for
putting stitches on hold), tapestry needle
Gauge (over 4/10 cm square) in stranded colorwork
pattern: 36 sts and 36 rounds,
in striped ripple pattern stitch: 36 sts and 39 rounds

Using the metric measurements is recommended.
(One strand of yarn is used at a time, carrying the other color(s)

CO 60 sts with long-tail cast-on method and join into the round.
Work even in ripple stitch for 29 rounds.
Continue in stranded pattern stitch for 23 rounds, increasing
stitches for thumb where indicated in chart and schematic. On
round 24, place the 11 thumb sts on a stitch holder. Cast on 11
new sts with the specified yarn color using the backwards-loop
cast-on increase method. On round 25, pick up sts from the new
sts created in round 24. Work palm & back of hand even according
to chart and schematic through round 52 (34 sts each).
Starting on the next round, begin decreasing. After last round, bind
off by cutting yarn, weaving it through last remaining live sts, and
