Paper Cup Speakers u sed paper cups, r insed and dried pencil scissors X -Acto kn ife (f or adult use only) pushpins p aper tube (from t oilet p aper and paper tow els) toothpicks e lectronic device (cell p hone or MP3 player) d ecora tions such a s paint, stickers, o r colored tape (optional) You Will Need: Rinse the paper cups with hot water befo re you reuse t hem to make your speakers. Tip : Tip :

Three Ways to Make A Musical Gadget! Heres How : Tra ce the end o f your devic e near the bottom of a paper cup Cut a narro w slit to mat ch the bottom dimensions of you r devic e Press a pushpin into each side of the c up to hold it in place Place y our de vice into the slit and list en to th e music! Use one cup with pushpins: If you need help cutting the narrow ope ning, ask an adult to cut it fo r you with an X- Acto knife. Tip : Tip :

Place two cups sideways on the table T ra ce the end o f the pa per tube on one side of each cup Cut a hole to match each circle Tra ce the end o f your devic e on the paper tube Cut a narrow slit to match the dim ensions on the bottom of your device Place one end of the tu be into each cup Th en place y our de vice into the slit and pr ess play Decora te the paper tube and the paper cups after you cut the openings. Y ou can paint the paper , wrap it with colore d tape, or add stickers. Tip : Tip : Use two cups and a paper tube:

Place two cups upside down on the table Cut a small X in the botto m of each Th en press one ear bud inside each X Tu rn the other two cups upside do wn on the table Pre ss the pointed end of a tooth pick into the paper cent er at the bo ttom of e ach Now put your hand inside one of th ese cups and poke the toothpick into th e side of a cup with an ear bud in it R epeat for th e other cup Then turn on the music! If you Tip : Tip : dont have any toothpicks, pull a small paperclip open.

HOW TO BRAID Twi st each strip to make it rou nd like y arn Hold all thr ee strips in your hand Make a kn ot at o ne end Then begin braiding Continue until y ou reach the other end Then make a knot Tie the two ends of the br aid together Tr im the loose edges with the scissors Use a clipboard o r clear tape to hold yo ur yarn in place while you twist it and brai d it.
