Introduction
T hanks for wanting to learn more about our adventures as we sail around the world! Or at least as far as Portugal. As I am fond of saying, changing plans is just part of the plan! So our present plan is to set sail from Nowe Warpno, Poland, where our boat Falkor presently lives. If everything goes as we hope then next November my parents will meet us in Portugal and hang out for a bit before I fly back to Canada with them and the kids for Christmas. Patrick will continue on to the Caribbean where the kids and I will meet him again for the new year. But this plan will be finalized once we hit Portugal. As I am the reluctant sailor, I want to see how this sailing thing works as a family first. Given that we did do a 2-month trial run with Falkor in Demark in 2015, I am sure that this trip will be more amazing than not!
This little e-book is a collection of blog posts from our old blog, unleashyouradventure.com, which is mostly our motorcycle adventures. We started posting about our sailing experiences over there, but then decided a new journey with a new mode of transport needs (and deserves!) its own site. It is a summary of the rather bumpy road of getting me to say yes to boatlife and casting off.
Either way, I hope you enjoy following along on our trip!
Sailing Around The World: A New Dream Emerges
O riginal post date: December 23rd, 2013 Written by: Patrick
It has now been 18 months since we returned from our world trip by motorcycle and settled down in Berlin. Slowly but surely the travel itch has started to build up again.

Not that we are bored here. Quite the contrary. I (Patrick) am part of the travel startup GoEuro which costs me many nights and weekends and will keep me occupied for some more time. But most of all we have become a real family. In February our daughter Emma-Justine was born. Sherrie is now a full time mum besides being a writer.
So there is not much time to get bored. Still: We love to travel. Only motorcycles are out this time. We had fantastic times riding around with them but they are not really an option for us with a small baby. Yet, not traveling anymore is not an option either.
Its time to make new plans.
Big plans.
Time to plan for the next couple of years to come. I dug out a childhood dream of mine: Sailing around the world. It has fascinated me since I was a little kid. My grandpa loved to sail. My dad as well. Before I was able to write, I mastered all the knots that I could find in my grandpas sailing books. But here the story ends. My grandpa died when I was 8 and my dad had to sell our ship. But the dream remained somewhere in a corner of me, waiting to surface again 30 years later.

Sherrie grew up on an island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. Its habitants lived off the rich fishing grounds that were provided by the clash of the Gulf Stream and Labrador Current. Paradoxically she is very afraid of the ocean and its waves (or maybe Newfoundlanders are just smarter than the landlubbers from Swabia). Anyhow, after reading a few blog posts she agreed to look into the idea.

We will start here a new blog series on how we are pursuing this new plan. We will try to answer the question: How do you make your dream come true? The short answer is of course: Just do it. Yes, but how?

Inspiration
O riginal post date: April 19th, 2014 Written by: Patrick
So the dream to sail around the world has been pulled into daylight. But every dream needs to grow and be mulled over in order to become (step by step) a reality. We needed inspiration and even more information. Where is it better to get that than from people (or even families) who have done it before. The last couple of months we have been reading blogs and books about sailing, watching movies and clips on youtube and even spoke to a couple of around the world sailors.
To an outsider, it might be a crazy or impossible idea to sail around the world with a little kid but as soon as you get in contact with the community it becomes more and more of a reality and more and more normal.
We want to share some of the best videos, blogs, and books that we have found. Enjoy!
Videos
An Australian couple take a yourney on their Yacht Teleport through the North West Passage. Amazing footage. Watch it on YouTube
Four teenagers meet up to fix their old boat Pestilence and take it for a cruise to the Caribean. A no budget production but definitely more inspiring than a million dollar movie like All Is Lost. Watch it on YouTube

Dan, Sylvie embarked on their boat Ustupu on a journey from Vancouver to Vancouver, with some stuff in the middle. But traveling means changing plans. They ended up building a house on a volcanic island and had a baby there.
Another couple looked at each other and said:
Honey, lets quit work, sell everything and move onto a boat for four years with our tiny daredevil children. Okay!. And off they went on their boat Papillon.
Bobby Schenk is a famous German bluewater cruiser and circumnavigator who lived with his wife for several years on his boat in Malaysia. Although his website (in German) looks like a relict from 1999 it is full of useful information and tips and updated on a regular basis. For German speakers a wonderful resource of information.
