As a result of the recession, many people have lost their jobs, and there are many others out there looking for jobs. In the foreseeable future, its likely that there will be more qualified people than available job positions in many industries.

The major issue is that prospective employers are not interested in offering anyone a job, because they are not looking for job seekers, rather they are searching for problem-solvers and solution-providers.

Most of the people looking for jobs will have trouble finding jobs not because they lack the necessary skills, but primarily because they lack a proper orientation. The job seeker may just want a job, but the prospective employer wants a person of value. If you are going to be successful at job-hunting, you must show that you are the right person the prospective employer is looking for.

Understand that value is not defined by semantics but in real terms; how your input to the organization can help them grow revenues, reduce cost, enhance service to the customer, and deliver the products and services of the organization in a manner that is more convenient for the consumers to access. These are the fundamental ways corporate organizations define value; it ultimately revolves around the customer and drive for profitability.

This book has been segmented into four major parts, each with necessary ingredients you need for success at the next interview. The first part establishes the fundamentals for securing that dream job. These include defining your value proposition, writing an interview winning resume, and harnessing the power of your imagination.

The second part of the book prepares you to take on any type of job interview, helps you assess the organization and yourself, and details three key strategies for getting hired. These are indispensable to securing your dream job, whether at officer or entry-level, middle or senior management position.

The third part of the book focuses on the best answers to typical job interview questions.

The fourth and final part of the book concentrates on making the right choice after securing the job.

The appendices (A-H) afford you the opportunity to practice specifically for the interview with the worksheets provided alongside other relevant details, which you will find very useful.

Keep this book well until you become a CEO, then you can hand it over!

Becoming a Person of Value

If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Adding value to yourself is the process of investing in yourself so you can contribute more to your environment.

Like an expensive jewel in a shop, you should be worth what someone is willing to pay for you.

Improve yourself constantly: read a new book, learn a new trade, learn a new subject, learn a new sport, and invest time in upgrading your skills and knowledge.

One of the best ways to find a job is to do an excellent job in the one you have, even if its not the ideal job you want. Always think fresh, and challenge yourself to come up with alternatives and options to a problem. This way you will always train yourself to be a solution-provider. Learn something new every day, and make up your mind not to give half measure on your job.

Be someone your employer knows to do more than you are paid for. Open your mind to new ideas and always be ready to challenge the status quo. Always be willing to help, and be disposed to teach others when you have knowledge, skills, and ability that others do not have. People hoard information because they think that the other person may become better than they are. Well, each time you teach another person, you also learn and become better. Those you teach will never beat you unless you stop learning.

If you are currently without a job, dont feel locked out. Its an opportunity for you to read the numerous books you bought over the past few years that you have never opened. Its an opportunity to learn something new, to try new hobbies; you may just discover a new talent that could hold the key to your financial independence. While not the focus of this book, the discovery of your talent is one of the potential benefits of unemployment.

To constantly add value to yourself these are some of the questions that you should ask:

What books have I read recently?

What training or seminar have I attended?

What professional journal have I read?

What personal development site or educational internet site have I visited recently?

As a professional, it is the value that you have acquired that enables you to give value to your employer. You can only give what you have. When you develop your talent and skills, you deserve all the recognition and reward (financial and emotional) that you get. Your ability to earn more money will depend on your ability to contribute more to a greater number of people. It doesnt necessarily come by years of experience but by years of experience doing productive things and contributing value.

Work not to be a man of success, rather work to be a man of value.

Albert Einstein
