Acknowledgements
During my first year in sales, it was a battle between the men trying to force me out and me refusing to leave. I had no idea what to do on appointments because there was no training. Naturally I was curious about one thing: How could I get a better job? Whenever I was invited in for a new sales appointment, I questioned my prospects intensively about how they were able to secure their jobs despite all the competition during the economic downturn of the 1990s. Their collective advice was excellent and helped me interview better throughout my career. I also must mention the people in sales management who inspired me to brush up on and refine my interviewing skills on almost a yearly basis. Because of them, I now have much insight to share with you and the public at large.
I view myself as a messenger for what works. In order to provide you with a truly well-rounded perspective on interviewing, I asked experts in the field of career transition, marketing, and hiring to provide their input, too. For their insight, friendship, and contributions to this book, my deepest appreciation goes out to Ed Stutz, my husband of many years who wholeheartedly supports my entrepreneurial endeavors and provided excellent stories of his career; Netanya Stutz, our daughter and marketing communications guru; Jeff Stutz, our son, who keeps us abreast of the high-tech industry; Christine LeMay, career coach; Kristi Frlekin, branding expert; Rebecca Kieler, career consultant ; Linda Stokely, career consultant; Don Cracraft, the document control guy, for his continued support; and those who submitted their personal interviewing stories to share with you, my readers.
Special recognition must be given to Bethany Brown, whose editing talents helped make my first book, Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results, an international success. My deepest appreciation goes to Bethany for once again performing her editorial magic on my initial submission to Career Press.
And a special thank you to Randy Peyser, CEO of Author One Stop, who helped me find the perfect publisher not once, but twice. This time she strongly recommended John Willig as the perfect agent to put me in touch with Career Press.
We all know you should not judge a book by its cover, but when I first laid eyes on the cover design for this book, I jumped for joy! I proudly tell everyone that I now have both the yin and the yang of book covers.
And finally, a very big thank-you to the entire team at Career Press, not only for offering a contract, but also for recognizing this books potential for helping, with a community-service mindset, those who have experienced long-term unemployment and those who wish to move their careers into fast-forward.
