The Teaching of Talking: Learn to Do Expert Speech Therapy at Home With Children and Adults: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "The Teaching of Talking: Learn to Do Expert Speech Therapy at Home With Children and Adults" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

In this guide, a speech pathologist teaches readers the methods implemented to improve talking in others, so if need be, they can do therapy on their own.
People with speaking difficulties are at the mercy of insurance companies who are determining how often and for how long speech therapy services should be delivered. It is also a disturbing reality that the likelihood for therapy frequency and length of care is contingent upon either the level of competence or comfort level of the speech-language pathologist or the financial policies of each institution. Often it has nothing to do with the severity or need for speech therapy. Our health care system is in no position to bankroll the long-term therapy needed by the many people who have moderate to profound speaking difficulties. The goal of The Teaching of Talking is to ensure that any loved one, caregiver, or speech-language pathologist is thoroughly knowledgeable in methods to help people improve talking since it is never known when the plug will be pulled on speech and language therapy services.
Ittleman says, I see hundreds of people with speech and language difficulties each year. By reading and applying The Teaching of Talking, you will have the confidence to help your client or loved one, no matter what the insurance company or institution does. By learning to do what is in The Teaching of Talking, you will be more self-sufficient and will not have to rely on anyone to provide your loved one with expert speech therapy.
The methods of home practice with family members will be of great value for patients with aphasia. Daniel R. Boone, PhD, CCC/SLP

Testimonials from Supervisors

To whom it may concern:

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Mr. Mark Ittleman for almost two years as his manager at an outpatient rehabilitation facility. He demonstrates a tremendous interest and passion for the field of speech and language pathology and works towards the best interests of his patients.

I had the opportunity to speak with several patients and family members who interacted and worked with Mr. Ittleman and all were most complimentary about his treatment style and his emphasis on getting them back into conversation. Patients have conveyed to me that Mr. Ittleman understands what is most meaningful to patients who have lost the ability to communicate with their family and peers day in and day out. He works with them to get them back using both conversation and the technology that they were used to working with in their lives.

It is for this reason that I would recommend Mr. Ittleman for any position in which he can serve the population he is passionate about. His direct patient care is an asset to the profession. S. Andrews

Testimonials from New Speech Pathologists

Dear Mark, Thank you so much for your overwhelming love and compassion to help me grow and succeed especially as a fresh fish in the pond. I am very honored to have moved you to write more in your book. You are an amazing teacher and I thank you in advance for having the heart, passion, and determination to share your skills with the world. We are still colleagues in this field, although I am like a premie at this point, and I look forward to working with you here and in other areas in the future. Thanks again, Mark, for making me feel like a person with a possible future in this field and not just any other student. Thanks again! C. Davis

Testimonials from Speech Pathology Students

Dear Mark, I just want to say thank you for being an inspiration in my path of becoming a speech-language pathologist. I truly enjoyed every moment I spent observing your interactions with patients and seeing your methods work wonders. As I continue along with my career endeavors, I hope to follow along in your footsteps. It brings me pleasure to know that through your techniques and new website, people anywhere in the world will have the opportunity to use a fun and proven way to help their loved ones speak again. Once again, thanks for being such a wonderful mentor. N. Vera, Undergraduate Student at University of Houston.

During the summer of 2011, I had a wonderful life experience. I was able to observe Mark for a few days in his speech therapy sessions. They were very interesting because he was having actual conversations with people who could hardly talk!

The conversations were very interesting because they were with stroke patients and brain injured people. He was able to get them to communicate in conversation in a way they felt secure and understood. Mark made them feel that they mattered.

Mark invited me to come and observe his sessions since I was inquiring about becoming a speech-language pathologist. That experience opened my heart to what could be done in conversation. He had a structure to what he was doing, and was asking questions that were easy for the patients to answer. What was interesting was that the questions he asked them practically had the answers in them, and they were meaningful.

I was honored to hear about a patients passion for music, the conversation of a mom talking about her teenager, and another person who talked about a trip taken to Las Vegas. It was also interesting to hear a father talk about his relationship with his son.

It was delightful and inspiring. Above all, it touched my heart and inspired me to become a speech pathologist!

Thank you Mark!!!

M. Elizondo
