Brand experience guru Jim Joseph adds a fifth element to the classic four Ps of marketing: personality. Among the most successful brands are those indelibly tied to the personality behind it. If youre an entrepreneur, or building your personal brand for any reason, read this book and learn how to develop one of the most important essentials to everlasting brand success: the personal experience.
I had never thought of myself as a brand until I met Jim Joseph on Twitter. His advice on branding has helped me take Family Foodie from blog to business. Thinking of yourself as a brand will not only change the way you do business, it will change your future.
Its exciting to see Jim Joseph extend his Experience Effect strategies to personal branding. Individuals create experiences, yet the idea of personal branding can be elusive for people. Foreword
Make an Entrance
By Robert Verdi, Famed Lifestyle Expert
I remember the very first time I met Jim Joseph.
At the time, he was the president of a prestigious public relations agency whose roster of clients included some of the most important beauty and fashion brands in the country. I was already nervous when I arrived at his office, and then his assistant brought me into a large, intimidating conference room where I awaited his arrival. Jim entered the room with his shoulder-length salt and pepper hair and a very colorful Paul Smith shirt, topped off with an ear-to-ear smile. I was pleasantly surprised and was immediately put at ease.
Not only had Jim entered the room, but his brand did as well. I was expecting the president of a leading PR firm to be wearing a traditional dark suit. I also anticipated that when he arrived, his personality would match his dark suit and he would be very buttoned-up and all about business. What I got was the exact opposite.
The Jim Joseph brand is forward thinking and modern. He was down-to-earth and friendlyhe told me that he was a big fan of mine and that he always wanted to meet me. Without hesitation, Jim told me that his fabulously fashionable shirt of choice that day was inspired by our upcoming meeting, and he asked me if I approved of the choice. All of this was very disarming.
I later learned that Jim has the same demeanor with everyone he meets, and he has a closet filled with fabulous shirtsthey are his signature and a part of his brand. I believed that Jim had gone above and beyond just for me, yet he didnt even know me.
There you have it, some of the core qualities of the Jim Joseph brand: original, friendly, and personalizedjust for you.
Those qualities are some of the ingredients that have helped shape Jims brilliance and success as a leading marketer. If you meet with him, you will want to work with him. He knows that and he has built a tremendous reputation (and personal brand) around the ability he has to create that feeling. Since that day, Ive worked on many projects with Jim and he has become one of my mentors, offering me great advice and counsel as I continue to build my Robert Verdi brand.
There is no better person than Jim Joseph to guide you on your personal mission to begin building a career, or even reinventing yourself by thinking about yourself as a brand. Jims experience in helping develop and market brands big and small is unparalleled.
While the idea of packaging your ideas and becoming a brand may seem challenging, with Jim as your guide you will be amazed as you unfold your ideas reading this book. You will create your brand identity and it will become a manual to your life, helping you redefine how you approach everyday challenges. Whether looking for a job or looking for love, your personal brand and your understanding of what that brand means are tools for success in all aspects of your life.
