This book would not have been possible without the generous support and wisdom of Papa Nico, Nico World Botanica. I came to learn about his magick and he taught me about my life. He showed me repeatedly that the impossible was possible. Through his shop doors many worlds were opened; forever changing what I thought I knew.
Thank you.

PAGANISM & SHAMANISM
What is Paganism? A religion, a spirituality, an alternative belief system, nature worship? You can find support for all these definitions (and many more) in dictionaries, encyclopaedias, and text books of religion, but subscribe to any one and the truth will evade you. Above all Paganism is a creative pursuit, an encounter with reality, an exploration of meaning and an expression of the soul. Druids, Heathens, Wiccans and others, all contribute their insights and literary riches to the Pagan tradition. Moon Books invites you to begin or to deepen your own encounter, right here, right now.

Taren S stood in her first magickal circle at 17 years old in the back woods of North Carolina. She was initiated as a High Priestess (HPS) within American Witchcraft in 1995. Along the east coast, she has stood as HPS for main rituals at many large festivals and gatherings. In 2001, she stood as Raymond Bucklands High Priestess at GoddessFest, in New Orleans. At Phoenix Phyre14 she was the HPS for the main ritual.
She has spent over 30 years living near the heart of Hoodoo country, Beaufort, South Carolina. Furthering her magickal and spiritual path she was initiated as a Mama Bridget within American Voodoo/Hoodoo in 2011. For over a decade, she has worked at a Haitian Voodoo Priests botanica (shop) as a spiritual counselor and professional tarot card reader.
Currently, she lives in San Diego with her husband, three dogs and a black cat with an attitude.
Someone once asked what made me spend many years researching and learning about hidden and forbidden knowledge in the Bible. The answer is really simplemy grandma told me a story.
By the flickering flame of a white candle and words spoken from the soul, she said the Bible could heal people and fix things. Neither Grandmas belief nor the image of her standing over a lit candle and intoning sacred words from the scriptures ever left me.
My paternal grandmother started me on a journey that, so far, has lasted over 35 years. It set my course for places I didnt know existed and learning that the impossible was indeed possible. I have traveled around this country and a few others all in search of the words.
Grandma was a pure Americana Southern Baptist prayer healer from the Arkansas and Mississippi region. She went to church every Sunday and Wednesday. If someone had said to her anything about hoodoo or witchcraft, she would have run to the church with her hands in the air praying aloud. Her magick was strictly through the Word of God.
Grandma said she could feel things before they happened. One of her favorite stories to tell was that she knew the moment I was being born before anyone had called and to tell her. She told me it was because we shared a special bond.
She also spoke of being able to say holy words into a candle flame and heal people.
What words? I asked.
She smiled and said, When you are older I will tell you. Life twisted, and she never got that opportunity. I went on a quest to find the words, hidden in the Bible, that she spoke to help and to heal others. This book is a result of that journey, and I believe that somewhere in this text are words she would have spoken.
Thank you grandma, I love you and miss you. I honor your wisdom and pass it forward.
