    vegan versus plant-based

Is there a difference between vegan and plant-based?

Yes, there is, but theres lots of overlap too.

Veganism is generally defined by whats avoided. Not harming animals is of primary concern to vegans, so they do not eat meat, poultry, fish, dairy, or eggs, and usually avoid wearing animal products (like leather, wool, fur, and silk), or using products made with (or tested on) animals, including cosmetics, cleansers, or furniture.

Although a vegan diet can be healthy, it isnt always. Why? Because Diet Coke and French fries are vegan, and so are lots of highly processed and refined ingredients, like white sugar and white flour. From a nutritional perspective, these arent, of course, always the best choices.

Plant-based, on the other hand, typically refers to what is included in the diet, as opposed to what is not. While many people calling themselves plant-based do eat exclusively plant foods, others use that term more loosely and still eat eggs, dairy, or fish. Maybe youve seen this yourself when someone orders a Salmon Caesar Salad at a restaurant because salad includes plants.

In other words, some people have gotten confused by the term.

Thats why I identify as vegan and plant-based, clarifying that I not only avoid animal products, but I also choose to eat exclusively whole (or minimally processed) plant foods.

Now that you know the difference, you have a choice too.

We know that what we eat today, can (and likely will) impact our future personal health. Will we be glad tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year about what we ate today?

    Lets do this together!

Lets choose to reclaim our best energy, achieve vibrant good health, and nourish ourselves (and our loved ones) with the best diet on the planet.
