ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
From the time I started in the entertainment industry working as a producer's assistant, to my executive years, through to leading seminars and providing career consulting, I've wanted to share the inside professional knowledge I've learned so I could help those coming up. This book is the newest part of that process. As with everything else in show business, it has been a group effort.
You wouldn't be reading this book if Michael Wiese and Ken Lee hadn't seen the promise in it. I am grateful to both of you for your belief in the concept, and in me.
It wouldn't have been possible without the help and support of my cherished friends: Susan Beth Smith and William Wells provided editorial support and insight; Joyce Michaelson, Kam Miller, Judy Ravitz, Doug Wood, and Tim Woods offered invaluable feedback; my brothers, Joel and Richard, supported me throughout the process; and, I'd never have finished it without the love and patience of my husband, Tom Crosthwaite, and my daughter, Sarah. Everybody graciously listened to me talk about this project long after they should have.
Chad Gervich helped give it shape and focus at the beginning of the process. Bobby Oswinski was my cheerleading section. Josh Ades was a great intern and tireless transcriber. Elisabeth Kiernan contributed excellent research and that clever map. Tally Barr, Akela Cooper, Leonard Chang, Steve Harper, Jim Jones, Christina Kim, Niceole Levy, Heather Regnier, and Nichelle Tramble offered invaluable comments. Jeffrey Melvoin passed along the Hollywood-English Writers Dictionary.
