ADVANCE PRAISE FOR THE GOURMET DAD
What I love about Deans family fare is that it is not dumbed down for kids. These meals and sides and vegetables are fun, interactive, flavorful and creative. The secret to conquering picky eaters is to build their palates from an early age and get them involved in the meal. Dean is clever with dippers for veggies and healthy twists on classic comfort foods that make the dishes more nutritious while introducing kids to a wide range of adult flavors. The only problem with Deans recipes will be choosing which one your family wants to eat first.

Dean McDermott is indeed the Gourmet Dad! He really makes me want to cook and I can barely open a can of soup for my kids. Im forever taking them out to eat and I can see their long faces saying not again, Dad! But with Deans incredible recipes and salivating dishes Im tempted to stay in and cast myself as The Gourmet Dad.

Making dinner for the family means catering to various tastes & preferencesnot an easy task.
After getting the kids dressed and off to school, going to work, running errands, making sure everyone gets to their soccer game/playdate/piano practice on time, the last thing you need is to make five different meals at dinnertime because one child only eats mac and cheese, the other only likes chicken nuggets, and the little one only butter noodles.
As the father of five, Dean McDermott is an expert at knowing what kids do and do not like to eat. And as a professionally trained chef, there is not a grown-up dish out there that he cant make kid-friendly. Now Deans sharing all his secrets.
The Gourmet Dad contains 100 easy-to-make and delicious recipes: a gourmet meal for the grown-ups andwith a few omissions, adjustments, tips, and tricksone for the kids, too. You will finally be able to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with your family.
Along the way youll learn not to be afraid of your kitchen, how to be creative with food, and youll expose your kids to new flavors and develop their palates beyond the norm. Deans recipes welcome flavorful and nutritious ingredients that kids will actually like so that you can get out of the chicken nuggets and butter noodles rut forever!

ALL THAT I EVER REALLY WANTED TO DO WAS (1) BE A GREAT DAD AND (2) COOK FOR A LIVING. BUT DONT GET ME WRONG, IVE ALWAYS KNOWN THAT BOTH OF THESE THINGS ARE TOUGH TO ACCOMPLISH.
That Ive been balancing the chefdad duties for a while now is an understatement. But let me tell you, I dont regret one minute of the long hours, hard work or late nights to do my best at raising two great boys and keeping my kitchens going.
So, when Food Network talked to me about partnering up with my sister-from-another-mister, Rachael Ray, for Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook Off, I was a little bit skeptical. I mean, Im a chefI landed on TV by accident. Why on earth would a real celebrity want to embarrass him or herself cooking on TV? So, did I think a random (but hugely successful) bunch of actors, musicians and athletes could get in the kitchen and cook it up in a way that would make Rachael and me proud? Probably not. But I was in for a surprise.
On day one of RvG, Season 2, I met Dean McDermott and thought all right, nice enough guy, looks like some kind of movie star and from what I hear, hes got a big-time reality show. Uh, yeah, Im sure he can cookriiiight.
Well, when I tell you that Dean blew me away, it would be downplaying it. Not only did this dude have some serious culinary skills, he had a competitive fire that I immediately saw as a huge advantage in the competition. Then, we got to talking about what really makes him tick and he told me about his whole Gourmet Dad angle. We talked all about his kids, Jack, Liam, Stella, Hattie and little Finn (with whom Tori was on bed rest during the production). We talked about how our lives changed when we had our kids and how cooking and food really, to both of us, are of the utmost importance in our philosophy of how to raise our kids. I didnt see Dean as this big, tattooed, movie star kind of cat anymore. He was a dad. A great dad. Who, like me, is passionately devoted to cooking for and with his kids to teach them about nutrition, how to have a healthy relationship with food and sometimes, above all, to make them smile.
Dean went on to win the second season for Team Guy and launch into a culinary career of his own. His creativity and passionate pursuit of being the Gourmet Dad have not only inspired me but millions of people, through his website and TV special Dean & Toris Backyard Bash that I executive produced for Cooking Channel. And now, with this book, The Gourmet Dad, you can take Deans passion home, into your own kitchen, and let him help your family really get cookin. His recipes are easy and fun but still really rockin. And best of all, the whole family will want to get involved. And thats the beauty of The Gourmet Dad.
