Introduction
G rowing a beard is something most of us have thought about at some point, and many of us are likely to have tried it (often unsuccessfully!) If youve had sour experiences with growing beards in the past, this eBook is going to demonstrate to you exactly how to grow, maintain and style a beard that will have you looking like incredibly manly.
If youve had bad experiences in the past growing a beard, you may be reluctant to try and start again. Growing a beard isnt as easy as simply leaving your hair to grow for a period of time, and there are certain measures you must implement in order to make your beard as stylish and aesthetically pleasing as possible. Those of you who have failed numerous times may be even more reluctant to attempt to grow a beard again, as you are likely scared stiff about the return of the teenage beard. The teenage beard is mens worst nightmare, and is when you attempt to grow out a masculine and attractive beard only to look like a young teenager just going through puberty.
But what if youre still showing doubts about growing a beard? Lets show you some key reasons why a beard may be just what you need in your life:
- A beard enhances your confidence. It gives you the power to stand out from the rest of the crowd and allows you to assert your dominance over others.
- Women love beards If you sport a handsome and well groomed beard, youre in the fast track lane to dating the woman of your dreams (seriously).
- A beard is the ultimate alpha-male trait. A beard can help you unite men socially, and they have even been proved to help men in being offered jobs after an interview.
- A beard allows you to dress in ways that may look slightly odd without one. Many men sporting the retro look have grown a beard to allow them to wear jackets and vintage clothing on a daily basis, something which can be hard to pull off if youre clean shaven.
Well there you go, a few great reasons why growing a beard is a good decision for all men.
If youre thinking that sounds great, but wondering how the hell do I actually grow a good looking beard? then keep reading.
We are going to look at all aspects of growing a beard Dont worry if youve never grown one before, were going to teach you step by step.
Starting Off
- The first stage of growing a beard is to start from a completely fresh slate. Theres little point trying to grow a beard from your uneven stubble at the moment, as it will often grow unevenly and leave you looking like a bit of a tool. To start, set aside some time to give yourself a proper shave so that your face is smooth and well treated. Ensure that you shave as evenly and thoroughly as possible, and use a variety of products on your skin before, during and after the shave to help your skin heal as efficiently as possible. You can find more details of various products in the last section of this eBook.
- If you notice any irritation in the skin or you accidentally cut yourself, youll probably be best to wait until your skin has improved / your cuts have healed. You want to start growing your beard from a completely even shave, and its a crucial part of ensuring your beard grows correctly.
- The next stage of growing your beard is to do just that Let it grow. You may experience itchiness during the first few weeks of growing your beard. This is completely normal, and is a result of your skin becoming irritated by the new hair that is sprouting through. There are various products available on the market to combat these pains, and details of these can be found in our product section of this eBook. Its important that you remember that the itchiness will stop eventually In certain cases itchiness can last for up to three months. This is the time period that you should allow for your beard to grow fully and properly begin to take shape.
- Once your beard has begun to take shape, its time to find a style that complements your shape and facial aesthetics. You can find loads of useful charts and photos on the internet that will help you determine the most suitable beard types for your face type and fashion sense. You can also pop into your local barbers for some professional advice. Once youve decided upon the look you want, stick with it. It wont happen overnight, and it will require waiting time before your beard starts to look as you want it to. Dont be tempted to give up halfway through in the hope of trialling another style Once youve decided upon your style; stick with it for at least a month. If you still dont like the way it looks after 4-6 weeks, re-evaluate and possibly consider a new style.
- Remember to play to your strengths. If you have a strong jawline, you may want a beard that exposes more of your jaw. If you consider yourself to have a not so great jawline, you can bush out your beard to change your facial aesthetics completely. If you notice patch areas developing in your bead, you can usually rectify this by using your razor and saving into your beard. If you need help with this, head to your local barber who will be able to guide you on the most suitable process. Its also important to remember that just because something looks good on your mates, doesnt mean it will suit you. Be realistic when choosing your style, and pick something you truly believe will suit YOU, not something which suits other men.
Promoting Growth
If you can see yourself struggling to grow a beard within a reasonable time frame you may find yourself becoming frustrated and angered by the lack of progress you notice. Millions of men across the globe search for ways to promote beard growth, and whilst there is no definitive way to speed up the growth of your beard, there are some tips you can implement into your daily lifestyle to give yourself the best chance possible of growing a full beard.
The first thing to mention is that if its your first time growing your beard, its natural for it to take longer than expected. In the above section we recommended you give your beard at least 4-6 weeks to grow. In certain cases this time-scale can take even longer, and you should really wait 2 months before becoming concerned.
Keeping your face clean and well moisturised is the next best step to ensuring your beard grows. Dry skin often results in the speed of hair growth dramatically slowing down This is because dry skin cells often attract particles of dust and bacteria which clog up the hair roots. This prevents the hairs growing at a normal speed, and can cause irritation and itchiness.
Ensure you get more than 6 hours sleep per night. This may sound a little odd, but if youre not getting enough sleep, your body is not getting the correct time to heal itself and grow. Similarly to muscles needing at least 8 hours of sleep to effectively grow, you need to ensure youre getting enough sleep or your body will slow down the process of your beard growing.
Stream Therapy is another popular treatment that many men are utilising to help them grow their beards more effectively. Steam helps to clear the pores on your face out, and this subsequently helps the rate of growth improve. Steam rooms at gyms and fitness clubs are a great way to find steam treatment at an affordable price, and sitting in the steam room for 20 minutes a week can really help to open up your pores and make your skin feel an awful lot fresher and healthier.
Applying biotin onto the area has been shown to improve the rate of hair growth. Biotin is based around Vitamin B7, and this means its available in a range of over the counter products. Ensure you only use products that are meant for facial use, and ensure they contain Biotin as their active ingredient. Biotin is also found in many foods, including Pork, Bananas, Papayas, carrots, avocados, various tomato sauces, certain types of milk, most fish, including salmon, tuna and haddock, and cashews, cooked eggs and often proteins supplements and protein shakes.
