However, youve never traveled to another country before, much less one that speaks another language and has laws, culture, and customs very different from what you are used to. It can be very overwhelming. How do you act? Are the airports any different? Do you need to learn Spanish? What exactly are you going to Argentina to do?
All these questions can turn a planned and fun vacation into a total nightmare that might make you question the entire trip all together. Thankfully, this article is going to ensure that you have everything you need for an amazing trip. We will cover every single aspect of your trip to Argentina, from getting on the plane there, to finding proper places to stay, things to do, and the best places to really soak up the culture, and how you can make the most of the lessons learned abroad while at home.
So lets get started and we can give you the best travel guide to Argentina, and once you finish reading it you will certainly want to pack up your bags and go!
Why Do You Want To Go To Argentina?
T here are plenty of reasons to go anywhere, especially since it seems like everyone needs a vacation nowadays. You might want to take advantage of some time off, maybe escape from a stressful home or work situation, maybe travel with friends and let your hair down a bit, or some other reason.
Or maybe you settled on Argentina because of all the things you can do in the country. From going to the Andes, to one of the major towns, to exploring off the beaten path and enjoying the large amount of diversity within the country. After all, South America is a very beautiful country, and Argentina is one of the crown jewels.
The diversity of the various biomes around Argentina is such because the majority of people live in the cities, and so the wildlife has been allowed to grow untouched. If you want to see some amazing flora and fauna, then walking through one of the countrys most beautiful parks is certainly something you should do.
You might also want to go to soak up the food and wine, because while Argentina isnt Naples, it is still a wine country! Theyve got a wide variety of food and drink all open to try, and you will be hard pressed not to find something you like!
Or maybe you want to have some real adventure by climbing the Andes Mountains or trekking through the jungle on a backpacking tour. Figuring out why you want to go beyond a reason like Its my vacation, will not only help you set a clear goal for the trip, but will also influence how you pack, where you stay, and what you will make a priority during your cross country travel.
So it is best to figure out why you want to travel to Argentina and to keep that reason in mind while you get the rest of your vacation ready.
Do I Need To Change My Money Or Language While In Argentina?
A lot of first time international travelers tend to worry about possible language barriers and the exchange rates of money whenever they find themselves inside of a country not their own. For Argentina, Spanish is the natural language and they have incorporated several other languages and accents into their dialect. Thankfully, there are a large number of English speakers as well, as English is the second most spoken language.
While it might be helpful to keep a Spanish to English dictionary with you, and to also write down important information such as directions in Spanish, you wont need to learn another language just to survive. In fact, with all the dialect changes, incorporations from other languages, and little rules that Argentinian Spanish has that seem to be just their own, you would get a wild ride learning their version of Spanish.
For money, the national currency of Argentina is called the Argentine Peso, and ironically the sign of the Argentine Peso is the same as the United States Dollar ($). As of this writing, the exchange rate is 1 USD for 115 Argentine Pesos, so dont be afraid whenever your bills and meal tickets suddenly skyrocket to three or four figures, because the local currency is worth a lot less in Argentina.
Typically, you can exchange your dollars for pesos at the airport, but there are several places in Argentina that will take both forms of currency. Having a good mix of currencies to start with is going to be the key, and as you travel you can exchange one form of currency for the next as your budget changes.
Being mindful of money and language barriers and changes will be very important as you travel to Argentina, but you wont need to change too much. As long as you have a mix of your home currency and language, and the currency and language of Argentina, you will be okay.
What Should I Bring With Me On My Trip?
W ell, that depends for the most part on what you want to do. If you plan to be outside all the time and do some serious adventuring, then you need to make sure you have durable outdoor clothing, extra socks and underwear, and a good backpack to carry it all in.
Having other things like flashlights, extra food and water, and a first aid kit can be helpful too, especially if you want to travel outdoors. You might not think you need these things, but as the old saying goes it is better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
Otherwise, packing for Argentina is going to be no different than packing for any other trip. Just make sure the clothes you are packing are a good fit for what you want to do during your vacation to Argentina.
If you want to do rustic activities like spending time with the gauchos (cowboys) or climbing the Andes, you will wear different styles of clothing than if you are planning to spend the trip dancing the tango and shopping in Buenos Aires. Still, as long as your clothing is durable and fit for travel, there arent a lot of packing requirements.
