INTRODUCTION

I f youre reading this book, you will probably have passed the very first selection phase: a Head Hunter, a Human Resources Manager, will have considered that the position for which you are applying could really do for you.

For more senior profiles, it is likely that some recruiter has intercepted you on Linkedin and has contacted you via email to do a telephone interview or via Skype.

Or maybe you have not yet had the chance to face a job interview and you are the first moves on the market. New graduates or new graduates, you want to get involved and start with your first experiences; certainly, you don't want to disfigure in front of those who will have to judge your candidacy and decide on your near future.

In one case or another, you are eager to understand how to best address one of the crucial moments of your professional life: the job interview.

Good. This book is for you. It was written to help each of you increase the chances of success on the fateful moment of the job interview. We immediately introduce a fundamental concept. The probability of success. You will never hear of pure luck, but of probability. Some of you will turn up your nose: in fact many people say that for work is the result of luck. Let's look at it in another way: there is no luck that can help those who are not armed with so much will and desire to do. Events do not occur spontaneously, but they must always be built and favored. Even what may appear to be fortuitous, in the end is never a "purely random" event.

Let's debunk the myth of the right occasion at the right time as a "fortuitous" moment. If you go to the bottom, in the end it is observed that those who found themselves "in the right place at the right time" responded to a set of characteristics such that it was the right person. Luck has very little to do with it. It is no coincidence that, especially as time goes by, those with more capacity eventually emerge. We will repeat it until the end: the skills also include the relational skills as well as the operational ones.

The positive news is that in the text are collected experiences, tricks and suggestions that can be of great help to you in order to increase your chances of success. The law of large numbers is in fact also applicable to the search for work. The more chance you have, the greater the chances of getting an employment or an interview opportunity. It is certainly necessary to broaden the horizons and look beyond one's nose: it is therefore not sufficient to respond like a robot to announcements, it is necessary as far as possible to accompany the applications, to favor the occasion. The negative news is that nothing will be given to you: there is no magic formula to get something. Even the work, as well as his research, are the result of constant commitment and sacrifice.

With regard to this last point, I would like to clarify a concept immediately. Where I talk about commitment and constant sacrifice in the job search activity, I am not referring to the sole activity of "research" of the most interesting announcements, as already said, and to the sending of the curriculum vitae. I am also referring to the creation of a network of knowledge that will provide opportunities over time. I admit I had to change, and a lot, my mindset, to come to the conclusion that "knowledge" is also fundamental in the workplace.

Someone, especially the younger ones, will be thinking of "recommendations". In reality I am not referring to those without meritocracy and deriving from "parental" knowledge. I refer to those deriving from the evidence of one's own merit and abilities in the workplace.

An example will perhaps clarify the concept I want to express.

If I am a graduate in economics, I will certainly be able to send curricula for jobs related to my degree. Absolutely yes. And in the text we will certainly see how to do it. But if I want to be even more likely to get a good job, maybe I will reduce the time it takes to get it trying to get to know who will hire me, showing my qualities. Such as? Presenting my works, proposing innovative solutions, making my thoughts known. On what occasions? The modern world allows many opportunities for contact. From the most classic conferences, institutional meetings, market labs organized by the universities themselves, up to the "competitions" organized by companies, e-mails, etc ... If you make yourself known and if you prove your worth, it will be easier to be "reported "As an interesting element and, potentially, as a talent to be acquired.

Similarly, it is essential to prepare for the fateful moment of the job interview. Taking care of every aspect and every possibility, foreseeing what will happen during the interview and trying to act in the way that will increase the chances of success.

It is clear that all this involves sacrifice and commitment. Above all, we must try to change our way of thinking, not stopping at appearances. So, let's start the path for which we want to proceed and focus only on ourselves ...
