L aziness is more than an emotionits a state of being. One can feel lazy and one can be lazy, but to truly embody the lazy lifestyle through and through, we look to Gudetama. The lazy egg with the cant-be-bothered attitude is the leader of doing nothing and being okay with that. What does it mean to live the life of a lazy egg? Its more than looking sleepy and cute; its an aspirational approach to life. Gudetamas lackadaisical attitude is legendary. To accept laziness in the truest sense is to give ones self freely to indifference, and Gudetamas life approach embraces that wholeheartedly.
The yolk broke out of its shell in 2013, when Sanrio held a competition to find a new food-based character for their stable of kawaii characters. Of all the possible foods in the world the funny lethargic egg was an instant hit. Still, in the laziest of fashion, it didnt win the competition. Despite coming in second place to Kirimichana salmon-headed palthe egg still made its mark and captured the hearts of fans around the world.
Making its debut a year later, Gudetamas name describes itself literallygude gude is Japanese for lazy and tama is a shortened version of the Japanese word tamago, which means egg. So Gudetama is in fact a lazy egg in every sense of the word.
As with all Sanrio characters, its Gudetamas adorableness that makes it irresistible. In Japanese pop culture, kawaii is the aesthetic of cute, and Gudetama fits the bill. Its bouncy cherubic body has the appearance of a droopy egg yolk, something that is so captivating that it somehow exudes happiness. Gudetamas sweet, downturned eyes and mouth make its uncaring demeanor completely relatable. Who knew an egg could be so unremarkably charming?
Can an anthropomorphic egg have a backside? Should an anthropomorphic egg have a backside? Well, this one does, and its Gudetamas cheeky cheeks that make it humorous and innocently sweet. Nothing says lazy like not even having the wherewithal to put on pants to cover your eggy nudeness.
No one else can capture total disinterest in such an adorable way. Yet Gudetamas appeal is about more than just being cuteits about living life to its fullest lazy potential. Gudetamas lack of energy only broadens its appeal. Its meh outlook is relevant to any and all situations, and something we all wish we could incorporate into our lives. Caring too much can be exhausting and sometimes we just want to emulate Gudetama, pull a bacon blanket over our eyes, and call it a day.
All the chapters in this book are appropriately apathetically titled. Barely Awake Breakfasts has options to help slowly ease into mornings, where Lazy Lunches serves up ideas to roll into a middle-of-the-day meal at a leisurely pace. As far as the biggest meal to round out the day, Drowsy Dinners showcases a satisfying evening supper.
For sweet tooths and the snack-minded, Tired Treats offers up both sugary and salty ideas for dessert or a special indulgence. Some days dessert for dinner is as good as it gets, and thats okay, too. For a dip into liquid refreshments, Sleepy Sips features plenty of cool drinks and warm beverage options, sure to satisfy those thirsty cravings.
To truly incorporate the Gudetama philosophy into ones life takes a commitment to laziness. Every recipe in this book has a handy Lazy Meter. Simply check the meter and instantly the decision between no effort whatsoever and a recipe that may result in needing a nap is made clear. Regardless of how much effort is expended, the end result is sure to be something delicious.
On the Lazy Meter, a 1 means the bare minimum, but dont worry; it wont be too exhausting. Maybe opening a refrigerator or stirring a spoon, but dont give up! Itll be worth it. A 2 on the Lazy Meter means youll probably have to turn the stove on wait! Dont close this book! Its doable! Look, Im not going to lie: A 3 on the Lazy Meter might mean multiple pots and pans and more paying attention. I know its a commitment, but think of the reward of a lovely meal and a richly deserved rest afterward.
Its this level of exertion that were willing to commit to that makes Gudetama so relatable. Sometimes the idea of making an effort can be overwhelming and thats okay. Go ahead and be noncommittal, take a step back, and say, Well, maybe tomorrow. Then try again, cook with heart, and channel Gudetama by taking a well-earned nap when its over.
Getting up in the morning is always a dragwouldnt it be great to stay in bed forever? Puffy pillows, cozy blankets zzzzzz. Oh, sorry. I fell asleep just thinking about it. There is absolutely no reason to ever get up in the morning unless were talking about breakfast. A tasty morning meal can be a big motivator.
The only thing that can rival a comfy warm bed is a fluffy warm stack of Why Wake Up Waffles (). Theyre a crispy, meaty hug that cant be beat.
Perhaps a breakfast of Sigh Pancakes, I Guess () is creamy, crunchy, and will be there to help you cradle your weary head when you need it most.
This section showcases the versatility of breakfasts and gives you a reason to wake up, put on your slippers, and go eat something amazing. So if you had to choose, should you stay in bed or go have breakfast? What about bed
