DEDICATION
As you thumb through this book, youll find mention of special friends and family members who have helped with individual projects. I really couldnt have pulled off this book without their help.
Im blessed with a loving, tolerant family that doesnt complain when the kitchen counter is buried in art supplies that bear no resemblance to an edible meal, or when the dining room is an obstacle course of beads and half-finished projects for my latest book.
Special thanks to my two-year-old, Celia, who carefully organizes my beads without spilling a single one, but will dive under the table to find the ones Ive dropped.
Jasper and Elliot, I appreciate you pitching in and watching your darling sister so I could make my deadline. To Elliot, a special thanks for cheering me on and telling me things actually looked goodthats a pretty big compliment from a junior high student!
To my husband, Jon, I want to say thank you for taking dozens of trips out to the garage to drill this, that and the other and for then figuring out what to make for dinner. For this and so much more, I love you dearly.
Thank you all for letting me enjoy this crazy career!

Acknowledgments
I owe a debt of gratitude to my editor, Jessica, for tediously working her way through boxes full of jewelry-making steps and transforming them into the beautiful photographs that appear throughout this book. Its magical to see project designs and instructions turn into a beautiful publication, which would not be possible without the talent and efforts of photo stylist, photographer and designer.

INTRODUCTION
Its time to expand your horizons and find new inspiration. In this book, youll launch into brand-new mixed-media adventures in jewelry making. But dont worrybeads and stringing techniques are still at the heart of each project. What has changed is the wide range of UNEXPECTED supplies and methods that will inspire you to make your own beads, charms and pendants.
The first step in making mixed-media pieces is to stop shopping for all of your jewelry supplies in the jewelry aisle. Explore the hidden TREASURES hanging with the scrapbook supplies and the sewing notions. Check out toy and yarn shops. Grab your significant other and scour fishing tackle and hardware stores for potential jewelry-making suppliesyour partner wont believe where youre taking him.
Be ready to break with tradition and use common materials in unconventional ways. Nail polish works beautifully on metal, so why not use it to make a pendant (see ). Nail polish, credit cards and washers are just the beginningthis book is filled with clever twists. Once you realize how easy it is to CREATE wire beads and drill toys and found glass, youve become a mixed-media jewelry artist.
