Parks and Recreation made its television debut and introduced viewers to the world of local government and small-town Indiana life. That might sound like an odd premise for a comedic television series, but
Parks and Recreation makes it workthanks to an ever-growing cast of characters who feel like our own colleagues and friends, ones that you cant help but root for. Led by the valiant Leslie Knope, this outrageous crew develops into an extended family, who laughs, cries, and frequently shares a meal or two.
These meals often bring people together, provide comfort, help with strategy sessions, and, every once in a while, actually save the day. From meat-filled burger challenges at the office to the underhanded deeds of local candy company Sweetums, food plays a major role in many of the episodes and makes viewers hungry for more. Televisions most iconic characters have personality traits that make them memorable, and the characters in Parks and Recreation are no exception. When you think of Leslie Knope, you think of leadership, perseverance, and, of course, waffles. (Breakfast food is her weaknessshe once spent over $1,000 on waffles in just one year from the local diner, JJs.) Ron Swansons reverence for meat is one of his most defining characteristicsgive me all the eggs and bacon you haveand it stands in stark contrast to Chris Traegers obsession with health food. Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle are known for their high-end shopping trips and extravagant meals (even eating sushi at a restaurant where all the fish were once owned by celebrities), and no description of Ben Wyatt would be complete without mentioning his obsession with calzones (and the disgust it creates among nearly every other character).
The recipes gathered here are a collection of greatest hits. Broken down into six chapters of delicious discourse, each one relates to a treasured noteworthy episode. From paying homage to the morning meal no one can resist to a collection of meat recipes only a carnivore could love, this book is filled with show-specific meals straight out of the always joyous and lively Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. Sometimes the line between work and life can get blurred. An office can become your second home, and the people in it become a second family. In the wise words of Leslie herself, We need to remember whats important in life: friends, waffles, and work.
Or waffles, friends, work. Doesnt matter. But work is third.
Ron: Breakfast, Knope?Leslie: I dont know.Ron: Cmon, there has never been a sadness that cant be cured by breakfast food. Whether its happiness, anger, or any other feeling youre experiencing, take it from Leslie and Ron: breakfast is the key to emotional well-being. There really is nothing quite like a big morning meal to keep your spirits up (no matter what time of day you eat it). Everyones got the breakfast bug in Pawnee: Leslies go-to is always waffles, Chris will always take the healthy option, and Ronwell, hell take one of everything.
And then hell take one more of everything. And after that light appetizer, hell be ready to have a proper breakfast (which is usually about five more of everything). Breakfast is such a huge motivator in Leslies life that she likes to commemorate memorable moments by creating special days for her favorite people. She and Ann celebrate Breakfast Day, while Ben gets to celebrate Waffle Day, which means that eventually Ann and Ben will end up in a bidding war over an original JJs Diner waffle maker as a gift for Leslie. But thats the beauty of a morning meal: it brings people together. Whichever breakfast food you choose to start your day, you wont be disappointed.
Roll the dice on something youve never tried, or stick with the classicssome pancakes, or waffles, or an omelet, or a little sausage, or maybe some scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. Or be like Ron and order all of that all at once. (But definitely dont forget the waffles!) Season 2, Episode 20Summer Catalog

Fill every crevice with butter and syrup and top them off with an extra-large helping of for good measure. Any time of day, this breakfast miracle can change your bad attitude, lift your spirits, or brighten a gloomy day. A good waffle can change the world.
