The world is full of friends and food. If youve played Minecraft: Java Edition, youve likely seen that phrase associated with the Husbandry advancement. And really, is there a better motto to live by? If you, too, see the world through the lens of friends and food, if youre always looking for an excuse to throw a party or try a new recipe, if youve ever asked yourself, How can I make this edible? when playing Minecraft, then this book is for you. Its an ode to the game we all love, with recipes inspired by the biomes, the mobs, and, yes, the food.

Just like there are many ways to play Minecraft, there are many ways to explore this cookbook. The recipes in these pages are grouped by familiar meal types (appetizers/snacks, entres, desserts, and drinks). Each is also categorized by the player type that inspired the recipe:

• FIGHTER RECIPES recall battles fought and victories won.
• NURTURER RECIPES provide extra nutrition, or the satisfying feeling of comfort food or both!
• BUILDER RECIPES celebrate the architect in all of us.
• EXPLORER RECIPES evoke the great outdoors, and journeys far and wide.
• INVENTOR RECIPES are as complex and exciting as genius redstone contraptions.
• ADVANCEMENT HUNTER RECIPES make you feel like youve accomplished a Minecraft advancement in the real world.

Along with ingredients and instructions, youll find dietary notes, such as vegan or gluten-free designations. As in a Minecraft session, you can search relentlessly for something specific that you need, or start from the beginning and explore linearly to see what you might find along the way. You can go into Creative mode and use the ideas in this book to build unique creations of your own. Or you can cook in Survival mode, meaning you need to get some food on the table before your hunger points drop to zero.

No matter how you come at these recipes, I encourage you to make this book your own. Substitute your favorite fruits, veggies, and proteins. Halve or double the ingredient amounts. Jot down notes and map out your meal plan. Triple the garlic (I write cookbooks, and I still do this). And why not try to re-create your edible masterpieces in-game?
