S hadow weave is a classic weave structure introduced by Mary Atwater in the 1940s. The use of alternating light and dark threads in both the warp and the weft presents a dominant motif outlined with an identical shadow. This weave structure is stunning to look at and easy to weave.

There is currently little information available on shadow weave. The books or manuscripts that have been written are out of print and no longer available. Additionally, those who have the books struggle with understanding them; they are written for more advanced weavers and in a style that is difficult for modern weavers to understand. Some information can be downloaded from the internet, but much is left out. Shadow weave patterns can also be difficult to find. I belong to two Facebook weaving pages, follow various fiber sites, and belong to two different fiber guilds; I often get questions as to where can I find a shadow weave pattern and I dont understand how to create my own.

The purpose of this book is to take the mystery out of shadow weave. It is written for the basic weaver in a simple, straightforward manner, to help them understand the structure and thus be able to choose a weaving pattern and transform it into a shadow weave pattern. It will give the weaver a good basis, or jumping-off point, for other manuscripts written on shadow weave. This book consists of twenty-five different projects that you can create for yourself, family, or friends. Most important, you will learn how to create your own shadow weave patterns by following the guidelines you have been given. I work with a computer program, Fiberworks Bronze, and find that it helps me see the finished draft very quickly and is a wonderful tool for a weaver.
