For example, you can set up food on the kitchen island, or a small card table. You dont have to get fancy, just make sure your guests can easily get to the treats. And if weather permits, you can use your patio, back porch, or back yard to set up your appetizers. Here are a few tips to help you get started. 1. Utensils for Buffet Table: Place plates and napkins to the left of the table.
You can also display utensils in a decorative container next to the plates. 2. Placing Items on Buffet Table: Place small chafing dishes with hot items on first; then place bowls of salads, fruit and vegetable trays next. If you have a small space and not enough room for chafing dishes, you can place hot items on the kitchen counter. You can also use a crock pot as a heating element so that the buffet could basically be for cold items such as salads, finger foods, and breads. If youre setting up for a Fiesta theme party and serving a taco bar, you would place the items in order as they would normally be served.
For example, the taco shells/wraps first along with the chili beef, tomatoes, cheese, refried beans, lettuce, and so on. 3. Table Covering: I like to dress the buffet with a neutral color like beige or white then layer with theme colors. For example for a Fiesta theme party you may want to use red, white, or green table covering, then use accent colors like pink, orange, and yellow to layer color on the table. For a Soul Food theme party, you could use beige or black for the base color then add pops of color throughout the table using printed or solid colored fabrics to compliment the party's theme. Buffet Decorations: When it comes to decorations, the possibilities are endless. Buffet Decorations: When it comes to decorations, the possibilities are endless.
You can start with a vase of flowers in the center of the table that match the party's dcor then build your decorations from there. For example, for a birthday party for a friend, you could add a photo of her on the table along with small items of what she enjoys like her favorite cookbooks placed on each end of the table, or decks of playing cards to accent her love of playing spades. Just remember to use layers of fabrics with the party theme. 5. Adding Tiers: Tiers throughout the table display food at different levels. You dont have to go out and purchase items.
Use what you already have on hand. This can simply be a pan placed under the table cloth or even a small box two to four-inches high. This offers different levels and provides an eye-catching display to put photos or other decorations. If the tiers are steady enough, bowls and food platters can also be placed on covered tiers. 6. Tier Ideas: If you have decorative boxes, you may want to display them on top of the table cloth; otherwise you can tuck the boxes underneath the table cloth in different locations.
I prefer the underneath the tablecloth method because its not obvious that boxes are supporting the food. If using this method, the tablecloth should be tucked in and around the boxes to define each tier. Also before adding food on tiers, make sure the tier is steady enough to hold its contents. 7. Self-Serve Drink Stations: The drinks should be in a separate location away from the main buffet. You can allow guests to refill their drinks themselves by placing pitchers and bottles in the center of the table.
You can also use your kitchen table, an island, or the counter top for ice buckets and tongs. Place ice drinks in a small cooler next to the drink station for easy access. Arrange stacked glasses with napkins at the beginning of the table. Continue the party's theme with decorations. 8.
