Foreword

By Jonny Enoch

Every once in a while, a great spiritual teachercomes along in an unlikely form. In the case ofJohn T. Long, he was not born of a virgin in amanger preceded by three wise men following astar in the east. Instead, our story begins with alawyer from Alabama who speaks with a Southerndrawl and loves to smoke and swear.

He also possesses the rare gift of inner alchemy, which is the ability to transmute lifes mostdifficult situations into greater understanding andsoul growth. The sole reason why we are all here.

It is truly fitting for this literary masterpiece tobe named after a book in the Bible due to thehighly

transformative

nature

of

Johns

experiences. In much the same way Moses wasgiven 10 commandments on the top of MountSinai, written in stone by the fiery finger of God,these divinely inspired pages are the revelations ofa sincere and honest man who found love andgratitude after great tragedy and loss.

Perhaps one of the greatest misconceptions wehave today is that spiritual books must be full of 10

candy coated, sanctimonious stories devoid of thehard facts of life that make us all human.

We can see this firsthand when meanderingdown the aisles of the spirituality section at thelocal

bookstore,

as

most

paperback

suppositories lose the reader in a maze ofunrelatable, cryptic nonsense about get-rich-quick schemes, barely decipherable by the so-called gurus who wrote them. These spiritualbooks claim to have countless law of attractiontheme (scheme) stories about their authors

seemingly

delusional,

self-absorbed,

and

illustrious saintly lives.

This is not the case with the Book of John; whatyou see is what you get. Actually, if we examinethe lives of most spiritual teachers throughouthistory, we find that nearly all of them had atroubled past before completing their lifesmission.

It has been said that we can learn the most fromothers by walking a mile in their shoes. Therefore, sometimes you have to stare through the serratededges of a broken whiskey bottle or a half-imbibedwhiskey glass sitting on the countertop of a bar inthe middle of nowhere and pierce through the veilof pungent second-hand smoke to discover themeaning of life hidden within the lyrics to afamiliar song playing on a dusty juke box full ofquarters from across the room.

However, this sad music is the soundtrack to amagnificent story which is raw, uncut, and purespirituality in its finest form. John demonstratesover and over again that even if we stray off coursein life, we can always find our way home.

This book is undeniable proof that we are allchemists living out our experiences byexperimenting in the laboratory of life, which iswhy the word experience is the same as

experiment in French!

What makes Johns sometimes disturbing, often hilarious, and wonderful tale so unique is hisremarkable ability to use introspective-humor totranscend his pain and suffering and to laugh athimself.

Perhaps one of the greatest secrets to life is notto take ourselves so seriously and to accumulate asense of humor. By seeing the gift of wisdom ineveryday situations, even our pain and sufferingcan become our greatest teacher, allowing us togrow and evolve.

Keeping in mind, the pages ahead contain ajourney into the bizarre and strange world of aspiritual dynamo, filled with profound wisdom, supernatural experiences, and laugh-out-loudsituations that are sure to warm your heart in away that warm milk, calcium bicarbonate, andantacids cannot relieve.

In fact, these true-life stories led the author intothe heart of the Mysteries. In the spring of 2017, I 12

had the great privilege of traveling with him toEgypt. It is there that I met this gentle giant andfirst encountered his sense of humor, kindness, and humility.

This book is a true pleasure to read from startto finish; not only is it written just how the authorspeaks, but its living words jump off the pages inmid-sentence, traveling up the optic nerve to twovisual cortices through the rods and cones in youreyes, acting like nitrogen and hydrogen explodingin the pre-frontal cortex of the brain until you areleft swimming in a maze of new and excitingrealizations.

These are the strange, ostentatiously weird, anddark experiences of a man not afraid to face hisinner demons and come back to talk about it. Ihope this book finds a special place in the heartsand minds of every reader. And may you alwaysremember that you are the author of your ownstory.
