DEDICATION
This book is dedicated with love to my seven grandchildrenLizzie, Tyler, Brennan, Chase, Alyson, Zack, and Austin.
They have kept me on my toes making quilts for more than 20 years. Im known as the grandma who can do anything with a sewing machineand I want to keep that reputation!
introduction
For many years I have taught a class called Winding Paths. It is actually the traditional block Snake Trail. But I knew no one would sign up for a class called snake anything, so I called it Winding Paths. My students have loved this workshop, and for many it was the first time they had tried curves. A block with curved seams can be more challenging, so I figured out a way to take an imperfect block and make it perfect. in the book features this block. Several different layouts are shown. Circles can be a fun part of the design.
Original Winding Paths block
As a quilting teacher, one of my biggest challenges is to come up with new ideas. If students like a teacher, they want to invite her back to do something different. So I needed to figure out something different! I wondered what would happen if I took that Winding Paths block, recut it, and added new pieces. The result was far better than I expected and has now become the Circle Pizzazz block. features this block.
Circle Pizzazz blockevery Circle Pizzazz block begins with a completed Winding Paths block.
When creating a new quilt design, I always make the first quilt from scraps. If the concept doesnt work, I havent wasted my beautiful new fabrics! I loved the scrappy design, and I have made many of these quilts using a variety of fabrics. Remember that you dont have to make the quilt using the exact fabrics I used!
Scrappy Circle Pizzazz, by Judy Sisneros, 37 47
After I started making these quilts, the possibilities just kept opening up. features a combination of part of the original Winding Paths block and part of the new Circle Pizzazz block, which creates interlocking circle designs. I love them all!
Interlocking Circle Pizzazz block
When the Winding Paths blocks are recut to make the Circle Pizzazz blocks, two pieces are removed from each block. I cant imagine just throwing them away! gives ideas on what to do with these wonderful planned-overs (which sounds better than leftovers).
