DEDICATION
As always, there are those behind the seams that make all the difference in our lives. I am exceptionally blessed to have Drew Casciato, a wonderful husband of 40 years. We are a team. Together we have raised four children and now we have the time to travel together meeting quilters all over the country. Thanks to his constant encouragement I have been able to quilt and write when I needed to do it. He is a fabulous cook and loves to create something new in the kitchen so I often have more time to quilt than I know what to do with. He knows when I am at my wits end and is there to get me back on track, such as letting me know when a design is good or bad. He has a great sense of color. Maybe that has something to do with listening to my color lecture a hundred times or more. Probably not, as he usually tunes me out during lectures. Anyway, as husbands go, I know I have the best one.
Thank you, Drew, for your love and support and heres to the years ahead.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to thank my wonderful friend, Claudia Bissler from the Calico Hearts Quilt Guild of Ravenna, Ohio. Without her support and encouragement this book would not be possible. She has given me countless hours of piecing time, not to mention the fellowship of sewing together. It was such a pleasure to be in my studio on the days that Claudia came to sew.
Many thanks to Krause Publications and especially Candy Wiza for their belief in my concept of utilizing stash fabric with new splash fabrics. In addition I would like to express my admiration and respect for a wonderful lady, Nancy Zieman, who has done so much to advance sewing and quilting in our lives.
My special thanks go out to all my longarm quilting friends, Kay Wilson, Janis Hittle, Eva Birch, JoAnne West and Nancy Gano, who have contributed their time and talents to my quilts.

introduction
DEAR QUILTING FRIENDS,
Im so pleased and excited that you have chosen my book, Stash with Splash Quilts. Inside this book you will find an immense variety of patterns, most with more than one version and quilt size. There are some new piecing and appliqu techniques for you to try when making my stash plus splash quilt recipes.
While nothing in this book could be considered rocket science, I think you will find that my style of keeping things simple will help you to complete more quilts in less time. If I had to describe my own personal style of quilting I would have to say, More quilts in less time make me a happy girl. After almost thirty years in quilt making I have made over three hundred quilts. My mantra is simply Keep it Simple, Make it Colorful and Make it Quick.
I spend a lot of time writing directions and Im always interested in the processes of rotary cutting, piecing and quilt assembly. Fewer steps in a process give me more quilting time to enjoy. So, please dont skip the general instructions where I introduce my magic triangle method. It was such a simple discovery but the end result is outstanding. Also in this book is an amazingly fast method of machine appliqu that I hope you will try.
Stash, stash, stash! Do you have any stash? Whats all the fuss about anyway? Now that you know I have been quilting for quite a while, I guess you know my stash is out of control. This overwhelming need for fabric is definitely an obsession. Do you think I may need counseling? I have organized and reorganized these fabrics so many times I cant count them. I have bought many different containers to sort and store this stash as well. My husband, Drew, a very patient man, has indulged me by building a 15-foot counter with large shelves underneath just to store my stash containers. For many years I sorted this stash by colors and types of fabric. Yipes! You guessed it I actually started out sewing garments, making dolls, drapes and other household items. Once my four children grew up, I gradually converted to making quilts more than anything. My latest organizational system is to sort by color (for fabrics that fit into a color category, like solids or blendables) or by fabric style. My style categories are Americana or patriotic, 1930s feed sack, Civil War, batik, novelty or conversational, large floral prints, stripes, dots, plaids, backing, etc. Now that Ive gone on record and admitted to having this huge amount of stash fabric, let me say that at some point I realized that it might be a good idea to plan more quilts that incorporate my stash. Hence, the idea of
