I want to add that many grandmothers who crochet have established an iconic style, and they are worthy of as much respect as those who pursue a different approach. Whether your crochet is gothic, boho, rainbow, or anything in between, it fits the yarn-punk mold.

The punk part of yarn punk refers to a mindset: punk has always put an emphasis on nonconformity, individual freedom, and DIY principles.

Crochet fits the punk subculture perfectly. Taking the time to create something by hand goes against the norm in todays digital and fast-moving society. The craft offers so much individual freedom to make something your own. Even when following a pattern, your work will still look unique, which is such a beautiful thing.
