Maggie Blyth is independent chair of Kent Safeguarding Children Board and Herefordshire Safeguarding Children Board. She has held public office as a member of the Parole Board for England and Wales since 2005 and the UK Health Professions Council since 2010. Between 2007 and 2009 she was independent chair of Nottingham Youth Offending Team Board. Maggie was a senior civil servant at the Youth Justice Board until 2005, which included oversight of child deaths in custody. Her professional background is as a senior manager in youth justice services and previously as a teacher, and her specialist knowledge is related to work with high-risk young people. She has jointly edited four books for The Policy Press.
Enver Solomon is director of policy and public affairs at the Childrens Society. He has extensive experience of lobbying government and influencing policy to improve outcomes, particularly for the most disadvantaged children. He has worked in a number of voluntary organisations, including Barnardos, the Revolving Doors Agency and the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, and has a particular interest in the youth justice system, looked-after children and child protection. Enver has published a number of policy reports and jointly edited three books for The Policy Press. Before working in policy, he was a BBC journalist for 10 years.
Jenny Clifton is principal policy advisor on safeguarding for the Childrens Commissioner for England. She is a qualified social worker and has worked in practice, management and lead policy roles in local government and the voluntary sector, with a focus chiefly on children. She has held posts as university lecturer in social work and social policy and has published on childrens rights and on domestic violence. Jennys current work concerns the promotion of childrens and young peoples rights to protection, their perspectives on the child protection process, and how they might be enabled to access help at an earlier stage.
Andrew Coombe is associate director of safeguarding at NHS Kent and Medway. His professional background is as a registered general and psychiatric nurse and he has extensive experience working in the field of mental health both as a manager and a commissioner. More recently, he worked with GPs in developing practice-based commissioning, a precursor of the current NHS reforms, before moving into the area of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Last year he was awarded an MA Health Services Research by the University of Kent.
