The Prep Talk!

When it comes to addressing an audience we generally fall into two categories. For many of us, the thought of public speaking fills up with a strange sense or terror that can only be rectified with an extreme in-take of alcohol. The notion that we are all superstar wannabes could not be further from the truth Mr Cowell can take a sigh of relief. In reality, many of us are just fearful of the rejection presented by a preying audience looking to be entertained. What if they dont laugh? What if they are bored, boo or heckle and worst case scenario - start drifting off into a deep sleep? Jesus, I am going into a cold sweat just thinking about it - grab the vodka no mixer we might need it! Yes, its that good old fashioned natural human process of thinking about what might happen that sends us into a state of extreme panic that seems almost uncontrollable. This crazy cocktail of emotions is of course just simple mind games of self-doubt. What we actually need to start doing from this moment on, is think about how great this experience will be and not the latter. There is no reason why your speech cannot be the best ever because essentially that is all it is a simple bloody speech!

Sometimes all we need is that simple reality check to get things into perspective.
