Foreword

I first met David when I appeared on his Sunday QVC show, In the Kitchen with David, several years ago. A first time cookbook author, I was there to highlight my new book, and I was so nervous that Id barely slept the night before. Fortunately, my intimidation and trepidation disappeared the moment David walked into the green room to introduce himself. He hugged me and said Welcome! I could see in his eyes that he meant it. At that very moment, a friendship was born!

Davids warmth and larger-than-life enthusiasm are absolutely contagious, and in his presence, one cant help but feel special and loved. This generosity of spirit most certainly carries over to all aspects of his life, not the least of which is his cooking. Whether hes throwing an elegant dinner party, hosting a couple of friends for Sunday brunch, or just whipping up a simple supper on a weeknight, theres kindness and care behind the food David cooks. In a way, I guess you could say David Venables food is his ministry! And in that sense, I am a faithful follower.

Davids new cookbook, Back Around the Table, absolutely knocks my socks off and makes me want to stop everything Im doing and spend a month in the kitchen cooking and baking every single recipe. As I read through the book for the first time, I thought, Well, hes done it. Hes pretty much touched on every single food I loveand then some.

The recipes in the book are out of this world, and the way theyre organized is perfectly illustrative of Davids life in the kitchen. The first chapter, Mix & Mingle, contains the most irresistible party foodsit makes me wish I lived closer to David so I could be one of his regular guests. The .

I repeat: I want to be a guest at Davids house!

For weeknight meals, David shares his delicious and utterly doable versions of is at the top of my list.

Along the way, David provides helpful sidebar tips on topics most of us need help with: the difference among pancetta, prosciutto, and bacon; how to shop for different quantities of cheese; and how to use a pressure cooker, to name a few. He also shares the stories behind the food he makes, what the recipes mean to him, and what memories are tied to certain dishes. Davids passion for each dish is evident. To put it succinctly: This cookbook makes you want to cookno two ways about it!

Ive saved the best for last: the desserts in this book. Dont get me started! From , the cookbook ends on a beautifully sweet note. I would expect nothing less from my fellow lover of all things sweet!

For those of you who know David, this cookbook will show you more of what youve grown to love about his food. For those of you who havent yet been bitten by the David bug, this cookbook will show you everything you need to know. It will reignite your excitement about cooking and encourage you to start making more and more memories around your table.
