Read This Important Safety Notice
To prevent accidents, keep safety in mind while you work. Use the safety guards installed on power equipment; they are for your protection. Tie back long hair to prevent it from getting caught in your equipment. People who are sensitive to certain chemicals should check the chemical content of any product before using it. The author and editors who compiled this book have tried to make the contents as accurate and correct as possible. Plans, illustrations, photographs and text have been carefully checked. [dedication]
This book is another team effort. Icouldn't meet deadlines, build and write without the dedicated help of my wife, Gale, and my shop assistant, Jack Chaters. The master of photographic art, Michael Bowie of Lux Photography in Ottawa, is the wizard behind the images. Len Churchill, of Lenmark Communications in Markham, has again provided the exploded views. Len is a genius with illustrations.
The staff at Popular Woodworking Books is my support team; I'm very lucky to have such a talented and dedicated group of professionals that includes Michael Berger, Jennifer Churchill, Emily Gross and a dozen other stars.
I want to particularly thank PW's editorial team leader Jim Stack. He not only supported me along the way doing the extraordinary he designed and built the two great desks in chapters thirteen and fourteen. He is a talented individual. Thanks Jim!

There have been many suppliers who have contributed products, material and technical support during the project-building phase. I appreciate how helpful they've been and recommend these companies without hesitation.
