Yoga has become increasing popular over the years and isnow practiced by everyone from children to professional athletes. Arguably the most common misconception of yoga is that itis a practice of stretching the muscles and increasing flexibility, now whileboth of these points are true, they miss out the main purpose of yoga. When people ask me if they should come to my classes Iusually ask them a few simple questions. Ive written these questions out foryou and it wont take you more than a minute or two to answer them.

So runthrough these questions and see if you think Yoga might be an awesome practicefor you to adopt! What is the overall goal youwant from practicing Yoga? Is it to reduce stress and be happier? Improve youroutput at work? Improve your health? To learn how to meditate? Are you willing to set asideat least 30 minutes every few days to practice yoga? Do you understand that yogadoesnt yield instantaneous results but rather you must practice it to reap allthe benefits? Do you have any injuries orphysical limitations that you think could get in the way of you practicing? These questions are simple but they do serve an importantpurpose. When I ask potential clients these questions it gives me an ideawhether or not they understand truly what yoga is. It is a rare occurrence thatsomeone will have a completely warped view on the practice of yoga, but it doeshappen and I always like to be sure. Asking those questions is my sieve.

Yoga Mat I find the most important piece of equipment to be a goodquality yoga mat. A mat will give you a soft cushioning between your body andthe floor. This will help prevent you from placing strain on your joints duringvarious poses. The mat also provides you with a yoga space this is the areain which your body will mostly be contained during the routines. I often findthat having my yoga space defined by a mat helps anchor me to my poses androutines much more effectively.
