Wish you had time to exercise? Are you turned off by the meat-market scene at most gyms, or are you simply unsure about how to get started?
You arent alone.
The good news is that you dont have to follow extreme exercise programs like Insanity and P90X, or spend every free moment in the gym to experience the health benefits exercise has to offer. All you need to do is make a simple goal to Exercise Every Day in a way that fits your already busy schedule.
Heres the thingmost people have both the desire and capacity to exercise, but they never get started because they allow obstacles to get in their way.
For instance, you might feel exhausted when your alarm clock goes off two hours earlier than usual in the morning, so you cant bring yourself to make it to boot camp class.
Or perhaps you dont have space in your house for lots of weights and equipment.
These are real-life obstacles, and its likely that issues such as these have prevented you from engaging in regular exercise.
In this book, Exercise Every Day , you will have the opportunity to identify those obstacles that seem to continually get in your way.
Then you will learn how to review each obstacle and identify the specific solutions you can use to experience a personal breakthrough
Finally, while many books on exercise provide a generalized list of tips, I take things a step further by helping you learn why a specific strategy works, what limiting belief it eliminates, and how you can immediately apply the strategy to your life.
Who Am I?
My name is Steve S.J. Scott. I run the blog Develop Good Habits , and Im the author of a series of habit-related titles, all of which are available at HabitBooks.com .
The purpose of my content is to show how continuous habit development can lead to a better life. Instead of lecturing you, I provide simple strategies that are easy to use no matter how busy you get during the day.
While Im not a personal trainer, I do consider myself to be someone who has successfully built the exercise habit over the last 25 years .
My credentials: Ive completed fifteen marathons. In the last year or so, Ive developed the habit of walking an average of 10,000 steps per day. I also enjoy a multitude of other activities such as biking, surfing, and swimming. Finally, I often combine traveling with achieving major athletic goalsincluding a recent trip to Tanzania to hike up Mount Kilimanjaro. ( Heres a pic of me at the summit .)
The common thread of all these accomplishments is that Ive maintained the exercise habit throughout my lifeno matter what obstacle popped up along the way. In fact, its because of these obstacles that Ive been able to create simple but effective strategies to consistently exercise on a daily basis. I detail many of these strategies in this book.
About Exercise Every Day
The purpose of this book isnt to lecture you or make you feel bad. Rather, Exercise Every Day is designed to help you clear up a few common misconceptions about exercise, identify your personal obstacles, and implement real-life solutions for developing a lifelong exercise habit.
Ive foundby talking to people from all walks of lifethat most of us have a skewed viewpoint of exercise.
On one end of the spectrum are exercise gurus who make you believe that exercise is only effective if you do something like P90X , Insanity , running marathons, or spending two hours in the gym. On the other end of the spectrum, there are those who barely move during the day.
Exercise doesnt have to be a black-and-white, all-or-nothing proposition.
The better solution is to create a sustainable habit, enabling you to get the right amount of exercise for your unique situation. Before creating this new habit, its important to understand why you have failed to build an exercise routine in the past and how you can take practical steps to overcome these challenges.
The truth is that people who exercise regularly dont have more motivation than others. They feel tired, uncomfortable, and busy just like everyone else. The difference that spurs them into action is having an established habit that pushes them beyond excuses.
Exercise Every Day doesnt focus on any one particular type of exercise. It is designed to help you build any type of exercise habit, from weight lifting to yoga, CrossFit to sports, or swimming to walking.
For this reason, Exercise Every Day doesnt cover specific details for each type of exercise. Instead, I focus on how to develop the proper mindset, which will allow you to build the right habits for your personal success. Then Ill provide a simple action plan for getting started with an exercise routine that fits your personal situation.
This book has a straightforward layout. Each section starts with a major obstacle that people encounter when building the exercise habit. Then, for each obstacle, I provide a few actionable strategies you can use to overcome it. In total, there are 32 real-life solutions to these common challenges. By the time youre done, youll understand the why behind your personal obstacles and how you can overcome them.
There is wealth of material to cover, so lets start by talking about obstacles and how they often prevent people from exercising on a consistent basis.
