That problem that is hampering your life is adisorder known as Shopping disorder or Oniomania the compulsivedesire to shop; most commonly known as shopaholism, shoppingaddiction, compulsive shopping or Compulsive Buying Disorder, orCBD.
The Compulsive need to shop its not suchan uncommon tendency among people. More or less everyone in thisworld is a fan of spending their money for shopping, whether it isdesigner clothes, electronic gadgets, books, jewelry or for a luckyhandful cars. However, when this shopping spree becomes anaddiction and you are crossing your limits to purchase things thatyou do not need or cannot afford, and in turn ruining yourfinances, is when this becomes a disorder.
Shopping disorder may not be as dangerous asalcoholism, or drug abuse, or even hoarding or kleptomania, butsometimes, it can be as destructive and vicious as the abovementioned. People with shopping disorders are always putting theirfuture, and their families, in jeopardy as they go on spendingtheir money in an irresponsible and careless manner, money thatshould have been used for other important purposes.
Shopping disorder is seen relatively moreamong women than men; and they are more prone to spend money thantheir male counterparts. In the United States, around 5.8% of thetotal population can be said to be seriously affected by compulsivebuying.
Compulsive buying can be considered ashopping spree on impulse, an obsessive compulsive disorder, anaddiction or a clinical disorder. It certainly does enough damagesto a persons lifestyle to be called a dangerous addiction.Shopaholism has the power to destroy families, relationships, friendships and careers. People get into such financial distresswhich takes them years to recover from.
In those terms, perhaps compulsive shoppingdisorders can be termed almost as dangerous as any other mentaldisorders.
It is true that at todays age ofcommercialism, the average person always ends up buying a littlemore than everything that they might need. However, for the averageperson, this excess is only in terms of three dresses when you needone, ten pair of shoes when four pairs would have been enough, aslightly bigger TV or the latest Smartphone released this week.
Going overboard is when you end up with fiftydresses, a hundred pair of shoes, a separate TV for every room inyour house, and when you are juggling four Smartphone when a personcan just need one. This may be normal when you are an heiress or amulti-millionaire in the making, but for the average Joe, thishabit will certainly break a persons wallet, and their bankbalance.
Almost anyone - from any age, gender andbackground is in risk for shopping addiction. However, thisdisorder is more seen among teenagers and people in their early20s. This is because this is the perfect time when a person getstheir own bank accounts, their own money, and their own creditcards, and makes a sudden transition from pocket money to earnings. This is when they stop being independent on their parents for moneyor for guidance regarding shopping, and get an opportunity to spendon their own.
Its not hard to recognize a person who shopsto meet their needs and a person who needs to shop without actuallyhaving the need for anything at that point. A shopaholics signsare precise and easily noticeable.
