The Great American Awakening: Two Years that Changed America, Washington, and Me: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "The Great American Awakening: Two Years that Changed America, Washington, and Me" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

Following his New York Times best seller, Saving Freedom, U.S. Senator Jim DeMints The Great American Awakening chronicles two tumultuous years from the presidential election of 2008 through the mid-term elections of 2010. Untold insider views of the controversial stimulus bill passage, corporate takeovers, and lesser-known executive actions that epitomize political paybacks and moral decay will further motivate DeMints fellow citizens to reclaim their government and country in 2012.
Just as fascinating, the South Carolina official talks openly about his seized upon high profile momentsfrom that Waterloo comment regarding health care reform to becoming known as Senator Tea Party. He also addresses close-to-home disappointments such as the infidelity of Christian friends like Governor Mark Sanford and Senator John Ensign, and shares personal spiritual insights that came from being part of such public battles.
But more than anything, The Great American Awakening champions the American people who now feel a powerful stirring in their souls to take on Washington and realign politics in this nation. DeMint tracks grass-roots developments, and new movements like the Freedom Congress, fully expecting a fundamental sea change for the better to happen soon.
Acclaim for The Great American Awakening:
I have Senator DeMint on my show often because Americans know hell tell the truth about whats wrong in Washington. His latest book is a riveting account about the fight for fiscal sanity in Congress. Its essential reading for anyone who wants to understand why so many Americans clued in and got involved with the Tea Party Movement in the last election. Senator DeMint was a huge part of this and I only hope he is as involved in the 2012 race for the White House as he was this past election.
Sean Hannity, host of the nationally syndicated Sean Hannity Radio show and Hannity on Fox News

Praise for Great American Awakening
After the elections of 2010, I was asked if I had any advice for incoming Congressmen and Senators. My advice was, "Be principled and do what you say you are going to do. If you ever need guidance, just follow the lead of Senator Jim DeMint." The Tea Party trusts very few of our leaders and Senator DeMint is one of them. He is a shining light because he is principled, does not waiver from his values and is as conservative as they come.
Amy Kremer, chairman of Tea Party Express
As I stood with Senator DeMint behind the stage at the 9-12-09 protest and gazed at the swell of patriots who had gathered from all corners of America I felt the re-awakening of American Exceptionalism. This movement is transformational, not temporary. It is rooted in our nation's Founding Principles, with the knowledge that a better understanding of our past will better guide us into the future.
Tom Gaitens, cofounder of Tampa Tea Party
Jim DeMint is a hero of the Tea Party movement because he's shown the leadership that the movement, and the American people, are desperate to see. He has given Tea Partiers real political clout because he's been unafraid to challenge the status quo, both on the Senate floor and with his Senate Conservatives Fund. But perhaps even more than that, he's given people hope by showing that with courage and dignity, and a firmness of principle, change for what is right can and will happen.
Ned Ryun, president of American Majority
I believe the Tea Party movement is the best thing to happen to our country since the original tea party of 1773. Patriotic Americans are finally awake and now we have insomnia. Thank you, Senator DeMint, for standing with us as we take back our country.

Acknowledgments
F irst and foremost, I am thankful to my wife, Debbie, who endured another year of my using our limited personal time to help conservative candidates and write another book. Without her patience, encouragement, and understanding none of this would be possible.
All of us who are involved in political battles should have profound respect and admiration for the men and women in our armed forces who defend our nation. Because of their sacrifices, Americans settle arguments with elections instead of weapons.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to everyone who participated and voted in the 2010 elections. Those who were involved in tea parties, town halls, rallies, and other grassroots activities helped to wake Americans from their sleep and give citizens a way to channel their concerns into constructive political participation.
I am deeply appreciative for my extraordinary staffboth in Washington and South Carolinawho help me fight for conservative principles and care for the constituents I serve.
My Chief of Staff Bret Bernhardt and State Director Ellen Weaver led my Senate office through a difficult first six years and continue expertly to guide my office.
Ed Corrigan, executive director of the Senate Steering Committee, has been a fearless behind-the-scenes leader of the conservative movement in the Congress. He has provided me with invaluable advice and guidance in fighting legislative battles in the U.S. Senate.
Matt Hoskins, who assisted me in founding and directing the SCF, played a pivotal role in all our election victories of 2010. He saw the opportunity for a new, innovative fund-raising operation to support conservative candidates and was instrumental in ushering new Republicans to the Senate.
My Communications Director Wesley Denton, who has been with me since I came to the Senate, has consistently pushed a strong, conservative message to the press. Amanda Carpenter, my communications advisor, has also been a key player in helping drive our team's pro-freedom ideas into the media.
Throughout everything Julie Blackorby, my scheduler, has kept me on task and on time, which has allowed our entire office to be more efficient and effective.
Many other staff in my office and other congressional offices have served as the ground troops for the conservative cause in Washington. I am grateful to all of you and to members of many other conservative organizations who informed, equipped, and engaged Americans in the 2010 elections.
Above all, I am thankful that, while many of us are doing our best to save our nation, our future is in God's steady hands.
Foreword
I was supposed to lose Florida's 2010 Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, and I was supposed to lose big.
When I announced my campaign in the spring of 2009, the only people who believed I could win were my wife and four children. The endorsements for my opponent, former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, started rolling in from the Washington establishment just moments after he announced his candidacy.
At the beginning of the race, I was more than thirty points behind in the polls. People thought I was crazy to take on a popular incumbent governor in my own state, in my own party. He had the name identification, the money, and the political connections. But I knew in my heart he would not provide a clear, conservative alternative to a future of never-ending debt for our children.
In my mind there are only two good reasons to run for office. Either you run because something is wrong in the world you want to fix, or something is right in the world you want to protect. I wanted to do both.
At that time it wasn't even a matter of winning or losing the race. It was a matter of advocating for the principles of freedom I believed in. I know America is the greatest country in the world. But it didn't get that way by accident and won't stay that way automatically.
We were at a crossroads. Washington had been taken over by big-spending politicians from both parties who were willing to say or do anything to get and stay elected. Their credibility to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars was gone. There was simply no way the people who saddled taxpayers with costly spending bills, bailouts, and takeovers would ever advocate the ideas to reclaim America and put it on a path toward prosperity. If they remained in control, America would no longer be the land of opportunity and freedom for all people in the world. Instead, America would become an anomaly of history.
Like many parents, mine worked long and hard to provide for their children. My father labored as a hotel bartender for most of his life. My mother was a maid and Kmart stock clerk. They left everything they had in Cuba because they believed America was the best place for their children to live in freedom, grow, and succeed.
