T his book would not exist were it not for the kind support of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash. They cooperated fully, graciously opened their lives to us, and were always willing to talk or be photographed. Thanks for all of the great moments, guys.
As for our editor, Bob Miller, he proved to be an invaluable friend and guiding light. He believed in the project from the start and was our main ally at St. Martins. Muchas gracias.
There are many other people who contributed an enormous amount of energy to this project. They each deserve special thanks: Ken Weiss, for his advice and friendship; Mac Holbert, for his heart and insights; Steve Gelber, for getting the ball rolling and for a critical eye down the stretch; Scott Oxman, for his CSN&Y archives and memory; Paul S. Caruso (Museum of Rock Art), for his spirit and enthusiasm; Charlie Blue, for being there when we needed a lift; Kathy Hayes, for landing the deal and getting it right; Joel Bernstein, for his photos and gentle soul; Gerry Tolman, for his loyalty and help backstage; and Ina Shapiro and Lisa Mann for keeping the editorial bases covered.
Warm personal thanks must also be given to: Tod Bottari, for launching the words; Ric Boyd and Tom Lachmar, for turning up the music; Blair Jackson and Regan McMahon, for creating the style; Dennis Erokan, Miles Hurwitz, and BAM magazine, for being there in the beginning and making the room; Jane and Edgar Zimmer, for all their love; Tom Stienstra, for sparking the fire; Kay and the girls, for staying strong; Frank G. Scott, for his sincere faith; Elizabeth and Zo Diltz, for being.

F ollowing the publication of the original edition of this book in 1984, we discovered that several individuals contributions to the CSN story had not been properly acknowledged in the narrative text. We would like to rectify that here. Jeff Wald, as a manager and advisor, helped keep CSN rolling in the early 80s. Elliot Mazer, as an engineer and production guru, captured CSN&Y moments of magic on tape in 1973 and 1974. Engineer/producer Stephen Barncard, who joined the CSN&Y family during the creation of
